how easy, or hard would it be to make something like this? and any idaes where to get or how to fabracate the snaps? it seems fairly simple if the relay is a common one

All this is is a simple magnetic switch that is of the normally closed type. When one of the snaps is released the magnet drops and the switch goes open and the circuit is no longer complete setting off the alarm. What they have done is taken a magnetic switch and either refabricated it or had one custom made (probably the latter). It does seem like something totally simple, you just need to find out who fabricates the snaps or might make one similar that you can use. Check the home security guys first.
The last boat alarm I did I used a Autopage unit and wired the impact sensor with a kill switch on it, this way the boat was protected for impact when it was on the trailer or stored off the water or disabled when it was on the water. To it we added two infrared detectors from a home security system (they are used outdoors thus are waterproof and work perfect in this application). Next we hooked up his aux 1 output to some new lights that we added and now he can see the boat at night from his perch way up on the cliffs.
