i curently have a 4 or 5 pin wireing harness[ i forget] in my boat bt i am installing a cd player with a 16 pin harnesss. how should i go about installing it?

How many speakers? What are the colors on both harnesses ?

Well, it all depends. What are the 4(or 5) pins in your boat for? Bare minimum, it would probably be 12+ switched, Ground, and one + and - for one speaker. It could have a 12+ constant for memory settings, and that would make 5 pins. THe above are just guesses based on the count of the wires in the harness as I don't have the foggiest clue about marine audio systems. Your new head unit probably has 12+ switched, 12+ constant, ground, remote turn on/power antenna(or one of each), dimmer, 4 sets of speaker outputs(8 pins), and maybe one or two more wires for assorted things. It all depends on the make/model of the head unit. ------------- Sam Roza

I bet the radio that's in there or came out is a shaft-type junker, right? It's probably a common ground setup, so it's best to rewire anyway- replace the deck and speakers.

You really haven't given the forum much to go on, info-wise. What kind of radio? What kind of boat? If it was my boat, I'd probably start from scratch and install marine speakers, new speaker wiring, and a new HU in a weather-resistant(salt, too!), box. its a aiwa cd player that i took out of my car and want to put in the boat.
the boat is a cajun, it is a 1992,they aren't know very well but are god boats.
i just need to how to give the cd plaer power from scratch, like where and how to install the power wire?The speakers are simple.

It's really tough for me to tell you without me looking at the boat, but generally, you have to remove parts from one side of the boat to reach and pull your wires through. However, if you have a constant, switched, and ground at the radio, you can utilize them and just run new wire to the speakers.

MOST BOATS I DO HAVE POWER AND GROUND AT THE SET OF GAUGES ON THE DRIVERS SIDE... SOME WILL HAVE A separate Aux switch on the dash you can utilize...... if you are only hooking up a radio itself, just use 14 gauge wire from the existing gauges......and be sure to fuse your B+ feed..... if you are hooking up an amp then run both power and ground directly from the battery up to the amp......
