Subject: Remote Start on 2003 Civic Problems

Hey guys,
I'm installing a Viper 550 esp alarm/starter on a 2003 Civic coupe. I got everything wired up but the remote start doesnt start the car. I have a 555I and it says b4 installing it, put the key in the ignition and try to remote start the car. So I did that and the car did not start. Can someone just verify which wires go where for the remote start connections to the ignitions/starter wires. Also where I should put the neutral safty wire as well. Is the tach wire the blue one in the plug beside the battery?
The 555I, the instuctions say to remove the steering wheel to get access to the immobilizer wires. Are there any other ways to put the bypass in??
Any HELP would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Darrell

The DEI part# 555u is much easier to use. There are only 3 wires and none have to do with the immobilizer wires, but you do have to store a key in the car.

Also the neutral safety wire must be grounded in order for the car to even attempt to start. That could be your problem if the car is not doing anything.

I did have the safety wire grounded but the car still didnt start. The reason for the 555I is that we dont want to use a spre key for the bypass.

Does the car attempt to start...does the ignition turn on? It won't until the neutral safety wire is grounded
Ground the BLACK/ white neutral saftey wire thru the included switch. Put it in the "On" position when you want to remote start it.
You don't have to take apart the steering column to get to the immobilizer wires, but I would if it was my first time. You can get them in the harness coming down the column with a bunch of other 18 gauge wires.

I have only used the 555l on gm vehicles and they sometimes dont work if you remote start the car before starting the car. The needs to be started first so the 555l will learn the resistence. But the car won't even start with the key for 10 to 15 minutes if that is the case.
Is this what is happening?

Its not my first time installing a remote start.
I grounded the saftey wire to the chasis. The car did not even attempt to start at all with and without the key in the ignition via the remote, but it will nomally start with key. I have NOT installed the 555i yet.

the 555l is not for civics . the 555i or h is for hondas and acuras but catch! not for all of them the l will not work after installing the 555l tell the world does the car start on its own with the key first thing i dont believe you can use the l for civics i could be wrong but i have been dei for a long time and 2003 civics are not new to me so i know my way around them and this is how you can tell the 555i or 555h will only work if the wires they say in the instructions are pressent if they are not dont waist your time use a 555u. also for future the bmw bypass the 555b does not always work you will then have to obtain a factory key ring and combine that with a relay to make it work the factory key sylinder is around 15-30 bucks . but check your connections and everything the fact that the rs does not even attempt means the brake wire is getting pos the hoodpin is getting neg or something is wrong with your work.

I do have the 555i which is for the civics and rsx
I know the 555i will work. I need to know why the car wont start and which wires go where in regards to the starter hook up.

Stupid question but is this a manual transmission Civic or a automatic? If it's a manual, did you bypass the clutch ?

Did you put a 550 ESP in your 93 Accord? Some units require a tach signal to be learned before it will even attempt to start. Look at page 25 of your install manual and it will show you how. it cant hurt.

I first had the 550esp in my 93 accord, but then I took it out and put in a 790xv and both time I didnt have to do a tach learn.
I honestly have no clue what the issue might be
Thanks for all the help!

If it doesnt even attempt to start then your install is likely flawed. make sure that all of your wires are connected. Does the keyless entry work? Do the parking lights flash when you press any button on the transmitter? If anything works then let us know, if absolutly nothing works, then make sure the antenna is plugged in and make sure you hooked the ground wire to ground.

doors will lock and unlock with the remote. Parking lights will flash. Door triggers work. Starter kill works too. The alarm will arm/disarm via the remote.
The only thing that will not work is when I go to start the car via the remote. The car does not even attempt to start, absolutly nothing happens. The 555i bypass instructions state to put the key in the ignition and then try to remote start the car, if the car starts proceed with the bypass install.

Hoodpin grounded? If it is the unit will not start. Neutral safety wire needs to be grounded, but I know you said you already did that. I am running out of ideas here. It cant hurt to try learning the tach. Make sure you are not in Valet mode.

If you want this Civic Start you need to change the 555i for a 555u or 555h.
That's it!
I don't know why you are using that.

Yea I found the problem, I messed up on the brake wire so that cause all my issues. The parking lights only seem to work once in a while though, I used the parking light wire from the factory alarm plug and I set the jumper on the neg side. Whatsur take on that? Should I hook up to the RED / black parking light wire and use a + output. Let me know how to solve this last one.
Thanks for all your help! I appreciate it

Did you solder the connection? There should be nothing wrong with grabbing the negative wire.

Sorry, my girl said the parking lights didnt work but when I checked it they do work so thats ok.
The problem I found is that the door trigger doesnt work. I used the (-)wire from the alarm brain to the factory alarm plug.
Its a 2dr so could you tell me what wires to use and where they are, and what should I use for a trunk trigger.
Thanks
for all your help, I dont mean to keep asking sooooo many questions

The factory alarm plug is a green plug above the drivers kick panel.
The drivers door trigger is green and the front passenger door trigger is lt. GREEN/ red
They are negative trigger.
