Hi All, New member, first post, kind of nervous:-) **Awsome Site !!!**

I have an 05 ram 3500 diesel, auto that I am going to install a remote start into. The make/model is an Autopage rs727.

I used to have an off brand remote starter in it a couple years ago. I removed it for two reasons, distance was to limited, and I installed it to use the voltage sensing instead of the tach sensing. I could not convince myself tap into the wire next to the ECM at the lower front of the motor for fear of the moisture etc corroding the wire and causing problems. The voltage sensing worked when the weather was warm. When it got cold (Alaska) the glow plugs would kick on repetitively and the unit would see the fluctuation of voltage and shut of the motor just to restart it 20 second later. Not a good situation to repeat this cycle over and over until the engine warmed to the point where the glow plugs stops cycling on.

After another winter without it I have decided to install this better unit and tap into the tach wire if needed.

I would like to know if there are any other location I can pick up the or a suitable signal for this unit. If I must go tot he PCM for the tach signal, which wire would it be, and is there a preferred way to protect it from the harsh environment?

Are there any other trick I should know about this model of remote starter?

THX,

Andy

glow plug @solenoid below air intake on pass fender. remove 14awg wire, test w/ key off to on will read 12v, or open if heated intake not required (engine is already warm) cant remember wire colour. on 06+ it is brown yellow

If you just set a timer.... if the unit has one, no connection is needed for the glowplug. It will start everytime, hot, or cold.

Thanks guys,

I like the glow plug wire use method. My previous starter used the timer method. When it was really cold it did not waite long enough for the glow plug to cycle off.

The chart from KarTuneMan shows to use the ECM wire for the tach signal.

DIESEL TACH SIGNAL Dk.blue/gray On C1 plug at ECM   AC

The ECM is located on the lower driver's side of the engine. The C1 connector is the plug closest to the radiator.

Is this the only location to pick up an appropriate signal.  On these Rams the ECm is in a very bad location for tapping into.  I would prefer to use a different source if possible. Also if I need to use the ECM wire, how best to protect the connection from the elements?

Thanks,

Andy

Use the cam sensor at the front of the engine at the lower portion of the fan. The wire will vary according the the truck but I've had GREY/BLUE and also TAN / YELLOW for the wire colors. There are only 3 wires at this connector so you can use the trial and error method.

DITTO. much easier than sifting through that huge harness with no slack the ecm

Thanks for the infor so far.

KarTuneMan: I did not know what you ment by "set the timer".  My previous starter did not have this option.  I got the unit running this afternoon with the timer method.  The AutoPage 727 is not the friendliest unit to program.  I am looing for a little more detailed information on the Lock/Unlock circuits and the driving light circuit.

The Lock trigger is a single negative pulse through a 2Kohm resister for luck, and the unlock is a double pulse through a 470 ohm resister.  I'm assuming that a relay is not required for these circuits and if I buy these resistors it should work installed directly inline. I am looking for a more detailed diagram or description of what is required over what is available in the instructions.

The programming options for the Lock/Unlock are***** 1) 0.8 second door lock & unlock  *****  2) 3.5 second door lock & unlock ***** 3) 0.8 second lock, 0.35 second unlock****** 4) 0.8 sec. dbl lock, 0.8 sec. dbl unlock.  What would be required for my vehicle?

On the parking light I have the correct WHITE/ green wire at the switch location, do I need to install a relay on the -trigger before the target wire?  If so, how do I wire a relay for a negative trigger circuit?

Thanks,

Andy

Program you unit to do:
4) 0.8 sec. dbl lock, 0.8 sec. dbl unlock

this is the only one i see that does double pulse.

1) The Lock trigger is a single negative pulse through a 2Kohm resister for luck, and the unlock is a double pulse through a 470 ohm resister.  I'm assuming that a relay is not required for these circuits and if I buy these resistors it should work installed directly inline.

i have done that befor on a prostart unit for a mazda. didnt bother using a relay and it works fine. make sure it is the trigger wire for the lock/unlock relay. if u grab the wrong wire such as the actuator, you will toast ur unit nicely.

2) On the parking light I have the correct WHITE/ green wire at the switch location, do I need to install a relay on the -trigger before the target wire?  If so, how do I wire a relay for a negative trigger circuit?

85 - Ground
86 - parking light output from starter (+)
87 - Ground (high current) with 330 ohm resistor inline.
87a - cut parking light wire, connect from Lamp Switch Side.
30 - to parking light wire (end that is cut - car side)

diode across 85 and 86, white band (cathode) on 86.

Thanks for the responses,  Put together I was able to figure our the lock & unlock circuits.  The directions for the Autopage rs727 for the resistor size did not work on my vehicle.  With some experimenting I found that a 1Kohm lock and 33ohm unlock through relays worked. The parking light also worked with a 330ohm resistor through a relay.

I have a couple remaining issues that I would like to figure out. The instruction state that the dome light needs to be connected for the alarm to function.  There is n reference for the dome light wire in the data sheet.  Does anyone have any information on the location/color of this wire?

azeigler....did you get all your stuff figured out??  I am working the exact truck and exact model RS as you did.....any info you have would be awesome!!  Particular....how did you wire all the dang ignition and acc wires for the truck??  I'm sure through some relays...but how did all yours come together and how is it working out for ya??  Thanks.

Hi Paul,

I believe our RS727 had two ignition and two accessory leads.  The ignition I hooked up according to the data sheet from AutoPage.  The first accessory wire  was also hooked up according to the data sheet but for the second accessory wire I used an old modified test light with +12 volts on it and I probed the remaining pink wires with the heater fan on high until I found the correct one that activated the fan. That is where I hooked the second accessory wire. It has been working great.

I know you will hear not to jumper your accesory wires together.  I used to have a different RS in this same truck and that is what the previous manufacturer recommended and that is the way I ran it for over a year with no issues.

If you PM me your email address I will send you the data sheet and the light and door lock documents from Autopage.

paul h, autopage units have alot of outputs that are easily configurable  (known as fifth relay). With the placement of a jumper, you can program the unit to do acc, ignition or watever.
