when i remote start my car (98 pontiac grand am gt) when it is colder out, around the 30's, the car will start up for like maybe 2 seconds then stall out, i had it serviced and adjusted several times, the last time the unit was even mailed back to the company and worked on by them. i just got it installed again and it keeps doing the same thing. all the wires were replaced, including the tach wire, it has a passlock 2 bypass module. if i start the car when it fails to remote start, by the key, and let it run a few seconds, shut the car off, and then remote start it, it will start up fine. please help with any suggestions to resolve my problem cuz the place i got it installed at apparently has to clue what they are doing

The 98 Grand Am should still have the passlock I.

First off: Make them get it right.

Second: It sure sounds like its the bypass to me. Find out what bypass method they used. When it is really cold the bypass module can drop out of tolerance. You will know if the problem is the bypass by going out to your car in the morning and watch the security light on the dash board. If it acts differently than when you start the car with the key, then that is your problem. If i recall correctly, the security should come on with the ignition, then shutoff after the car was successfully started. If there is a problem the security light starts to flash.

Does it only try once or 3 times? Also can you easily see the module? If so after it shuts off by itself (do not press the brakes or stop) count the number of flashes of the LED. Let me know how many flashes and it should help.

I would be willing to bet that the problem is not with the unit itself but rather the installation. I agree with jrilla, sounds like the passlock is giving trouble. Do you know what kind of bypass they used?
