As some of you may have seen my recent posts I'm trying to have my cake an eat it to, which is a retarded phrase, if i have cake why wouldn't i eat it?

BACKSTORY:

I'm looking for a 2-way paging alarm / starter, with 1+ mile range, for a 2000 Audi s4 (no imbolizer), with a Manual Transmission.

So far I've come across a lot of information, but i'm still completely baffled on what to get.

I'm looking for the range because I park a good trek from the office, and there are buildings and crap in between, it's not a straight line of sight. While i realize it's probably not necessary, but it'll give me some peace of mind. Plus I'm one of those ppl. who wants the best toy.

Not to sound like a turd, but money isn't overly important because i look at this as an investment. While my budget is limited, and money is still an influencer, I'm willing to shell out the coin for a good unit if it's worth it. Yes the initial price can be high, but it's a one time fee for the most part, so I'll suck it up and deal with it.

I've looked at the compustar pro P2WSS, and the astrostart RSS-5224, from what i've seen those are my best two choices? Unless someone knows of anything else?

I was looking at the sammito electronics easycar alarm starters, but i found they only had a 3000 foot range.

I want something that has inputs for multiple sensors as well. at the bare minimum i want to have shock and tilt, and probably some sort of motion or proximity.

Like anything else i've read mixed reviews on every unit i've come across.

TOPIC:
So to sum it up: Looking for a 2-way paging Alarm and Remote Starter with SICK range and has a reservation mode for Manual Transmission.

So I'll ask you guys, what would you get if you were in my shoes?

TIA!

My vote in those choices would be the Compustar. My normal preference is DEI however DEI does not offer anything in their US line that has native support for a manual transmission. They offer an add-on piece that makes their systems safe for MT cars but as far as native support the Compustar is the way to go IMO.

Yeah, i was really liking the clifford 50.5x, but no manual trans support, though the g5 has an add on module I found. But the G5 isn't what i'm looking for.

I'm willing to get a non us version if it has reservation mode. I'd rather try the installation myself. As a backup i have a buddy that's a pro installer so hopefully he'd be able to help me out if i ran into trouble. So that would take care of the problem of installing an overseas version.

The compustar pro I know i have to get that through the dealer.

I didn't realize this at first, but astrostart is owned by dei.

Yep. DEI bought them too. Their products are still their products (for now anyway). I hear through the rumor mill that DEI will be using the Astrochart information in directechs, I am looking forward to that! My experience with the Astro stuff is limited, and although I have heard good things about their products, the Compustar stuff is top notch. Hence my recommendation for the Compustar on a manual tranny.

DEI markets the I/start here with native built in mt capability, BUT only works (data linkage) with G4 and 5, limited range, about 200ft., one way only. Matrix 5.X is a DEI product branded Clifford,  that uses Bitwriter programming and won't work with I/Start. I'm trying to talk to Compustar about making their product over for Europe, I would run Compustar or Astrostart, at least while Astrostart remains a separate product. I believe the new DEI remotes are made by  Astrostart.        PS  Within reason the only products we have that you don't is the MTM1 made by (I think) Trilogix and used over here for Viper and Hornet. The other product being call-guard only for Clifford G4/5 which uses a cellular based product to 2 way page and control the alarm. Uses European GSM frequencies of 900/1800 meg so we would have a problem straight away on  frequencies let alone GSM v CDMA. Also the word CRAP: over here now relates to French auto electrics, i.e. CRAP stands for Citroen Renault And Peugeot.

PS Boy are you in for problems if you think a 2000 Audi doesn't have an immobilser, they started factory installing them over here in 93/4.

The US Spec B5 S4 does not have an imboliser. It is why these cars have been on the top 10 list of most stolen cars multiple times. The Euro and even Canadian B5 S4 do have an imboliser though.

Added Proof: I bought generic key blade off of e-bay and had it cut at my local mom and pop lock smith. They definitely did not program it. But it works perfectly in my car.

I was told by the boys in tech support (DEI of Canada) that the product will stay the same, it will simply be made over seas..... I don't know how that keeps it the same?

I will still support a little Astro..... until they become tooooo much like a DEI product....wich IS happening. Then I guess I'll use Compustar.

Hmm something else i did not realize at first, and correct me if I am wrong, but the AstroStart model I was looking at is only remote start and remote entry but not an actual alarm. At least it is not advertised as an alarm.

Sorry didn't realise that, as an examlple, the G4 I/Start was USA made and gave no problems, the G5 I/Start (only available in UK, frankly as a numbers game the rest of Europe folows the UK), looks the same till you realise the casing is shinier and the loom thicknesses (same colours) are not quite the same.  It also gives lots of programming glitches when useing the Wiz, to the extent that if I don't  have to change crank time,  I will ALWAYS manually programme tach LAST. The install guide is prone to proofing errors in relation to parking brake wire and GREEN/ black autobox wire but what's new. As far as I know current DEI product is made by Liteon (a Dutch company) in Taiwan (along with Toad and Sigma  alarms from the UK).
