I seldom do auto electronics however. My wife got a new DEI remote starter for gift.Model 24927. She owns a 2006 hyundai elantra. It looks to me that I am gonna be over my head installing this after looking at instructions.Any tips to make me feel better about this or is this in fact difficult for first timers. I do have LOTS of years in auto repair so I can figure stuff out.Just not lots of experience with auto electronics. THANKS
Replies: Posted By: Twelvoltz Date Posted: December 26, 2007 at 7:56 AM I have several friends that are decent mechanics but will not tackle a remote start installation themselves. The fact they know me is probably more of a factor than ability. When they look at the number of vehicle connections required I guess it scares them away. If you are not comfortable with the installation I would recommend paying a shop/installer to do it. Better to pay a little up front than a lot in repair costs later.
With that being said, the US version of the 06 Elantra does not have a transponder key, if the vehicle came with factory keyless entry the door locks are negative trigger, and everything is available without having to go into the doors. It is a straight forward installation with nothing truly complicated to interface. According to my sheets if the car is equipped with a factory alarm there is no way to arm it from an aftermarket system. To disarm the system the car needs to see ignition, accessory, and keysense. However if you discontinue using the factory remotes once the system is installed this should not be a factor. Here is what Audiovox lists on their tech sheet for the 06 Elantra: #509618: 2006 HYUNDAI ELANTRA 4DR HATCHBACK Audio/Mobile Video WIRE COLOR POLARITY LOCATION Battery LIGHT GREEN (+) RADIO HARNESS Accesory BROWN (+) RADIO HARNESS Ground BLACK (-) RADIO HARNESS Illumination DARK GREEN / WHITE (+) RADIO HARNESS Dimmer DARK GREEN/ BLACK (+) RADIO HARNESS LF Speaker (+) GREEN/ RED LF Speaker (-) LIGHT GREEN / WHITE RF Speaker (+) RED / BLUE RF Speaker (-) LIGHT GREEN/ BLACK LR Speaker (+) YELLOW/WHITE LR Speaker (-) YELLOW/BLUE RR Speaker (+) GREEN RR Speaker (-) GREEN/ BLUE Radio Security YES Security WIRE COLOR POLARITY LOCATION Battery YELLOW/BLACK (+) IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS Ignition 1 BLACK/ WHITE (+) IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS Starter 1 YELLOW/RED (+) IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS All Door Trigger YELLOW (-) IN PLUG IN DRIVERS KICKPANEL Trunk Trigger BLUE / YELLOW (-) IN HARNESS IN DRIVERS KICKPANEL Parking Lights GREEN / WHITE (+) IN HARNESS IN DRIVERS KICKPANEL Convenience WIRE COLOR POLARITY LOCATION Headlights-Lo RED / YELLOW (-) AT VEHICLE LIGHT SWITCH Trnk Release YELLOW/BLACK (+) AT TRUNK RELEASE SWITCH Remote Start WIRE COLOR POLARITY LOCATION Battery YELLOW/BLACK (+) IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS Ignition 1 BLACK/ WHITE (+) IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS Ignition 2 BLUE/BLACK (+) IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS Accessory 1 BLUE / YELLOW (+) IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS Starter 1 YELLOW/RED (+) IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS Key Sense RED / YELLOW (+) IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS Tachometer BLUE/WHITE (AC) AT IGNITION COIL Speed Sense YELLOW/WHITE (AC) IN HARNESS IN DRIVERS KICKPANEL Parking Lights GREEN / WHITE (+) IN HARNESS IN DRIVERS KICKPANEL Brake Lights GREEN (+) AT SWITCH ABOVE BRAKE PEDAL Reverse Lights RED / GREEN (+) IN HARNESS IN DRIVERS KICKPANEL Modules WIRE LOCATION Please select another category Doorlocks/Windows WIRE COLOR POLARITY LOCATION Power Unlock PINK (-) DRIVERS KICK IF THE VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE KEYLESS ENTRY THEN YOU MUST INSTALL AN ACTUATOR TO PROVIDE POWER LOCKING FEATURES. The installer must verify any circuitry with the proper test equipment prior to installation. Compare what is listed in this information with the installation instructions for the system. See if it is something you would want to tackle on your own. In my opinion this is a decent vehicle to do yourself but only you know how comfortable you are with your particular skill set. I only recommend soldering the connections to ensure long term reliability so that may be a factor for you as well. Keep in mind the tech sheet is just a guide and you must verify all of your connections with a DMM prior to hooking anything into the factory wiring. ------------- Installer, IT support, and FFL.
