Hello guys, I am fairly new at this and will not be attempting the install on my own, I acctually do not know whats going to happen yet, but heres the story. My girl bought me the Viper 5900 for Xmas (I know because I peeked) and my question how, if possible, will I be able to install this. My car is a 6 spd manual and I heard I could get the Nuetral safety switch Module 689M, from DEI, as a fail safe so the remote start can be safely installed on my car. Apparently this switch will not allow the remote start to start the car if it is in gear. Is this true. I also heard that I will not need a module to bypass my existing factory alarm becuase the 5900 has this built in, is this true? and before anyone says it, no getting a compustar is out of the question. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated, also does anyone know the cheapest place to buy these DEI OEM modules, I would also like to know the module number to control my windows and sunroof from the 2 way LCD 5900 remote.

Thanks,
Josh

DO NOT attempt this install without the 689M, no matter what anyone tells you!

You will need this, as well as a transponder bypass. The way the 689M works is by monitoring the door pins, the hand brake, and the foot brake. You go thru a sequence

in order, everytime you exit the car. When you get out with the keys in your hand, the car continues to run untill you shut the door. If you enter the vehicle without remote starting

(ie) unlock the doors and open the door to retrieve anything left behind.... the car will not remote start, you have "broken" the sequence. (reservation mode it's called) SO, if you need to get back

into the car to get something out....... remote start it first, otherwise you will need to reset the reservation mode sequence again. (get in, close the door, start the car, foot on brake, ebrake up......) PITA.

Don't get a "buddie" to help you either, get a skilled installer to assist you.  Find a DEI dealer, and get ready to pay, pay, pay...... for the parts.

ok so the 689M makes it function almost exactly like the compustar? I have a bud that works at Best buy, and he seems to think the installers there will do it? can you link me to more specific info on the 689M as well as where to get it?

yes, it will act as a reservation mode to allow remote start on manual cars. I dont think the guys at the shop are willing to install it. because if ur car starts nd hits sum1, they wont take responsability. ask her where ur gf got it so u can go chnage it for a manual safe starter.

I just got off the phone with a customer service rep from DEI. My girl bought the viper 5900 for me for my Xmas, and I was calling to inquire about the 689M Neutral safety switch module and how effective it was. This lady was as sweet as she could be but could tell me nothing about how this module worked and only came to say "well if you had any doubts about it, I just wouldnt do it." That is not really what I was looking for.

Does anyone on here know how this thing works and how safe is it to install the 5900 with the 689M module on my vehicle? Just looking for some help and I really want this thing on my car. Someone please shed some light.'

Thanks,
Josh

I have a 07 civic and just used a jumper for my clutch. Put the 5900 with a pk05 bypass on my car and have no problems. Just dont leave your car in gear......

see thats the problem "dont leave you car in gear" what if you let someone borrow your car (family) and they left it in gear and remote started the thing? what would you do then?

as for the DEI reservation mode, it is VERY affective. works everytime and cant get any better than that. DEI is slightly more that peripheral or scosch NSS kits. (neutral safety system)

If I were to loan my car I would just flip the switch to turn it off just like if I were to take it into the dealer. I have had a manual car for the last 10years and all 4 cars have had Alarm/Starters in them NEVER have had an issue.... The 689m DEI part is a great thing because before I used to bypass the clutch for whoever and didnt think twice about it till a talked to a lawyer who said dont even mess with manual cars. Myself I rather not spend the $50 extra for the 689m.
