Hey, first post. I need to know how passkey works because i installed a remote start system into a 2001 bonneville and when i press the remote start, i hear the relay click in the remote start brain box, but the starter doesnt turn at all. Is this a passkey problem, or a wiring job mishap. Please let me know, thanks

a passkey is bascically a transponder system, it should start the car with the ign in the key if the starter is wired properly.

Hey I think you have passlock 2 not passkey. When you turn the key to the start position the ignition cylinder sends out an R-code/ resistance value that lets you start the car. See the thing I dont understand is why GM even did that. The code is not in the key so technically you could start it with a flat head. BTW it sounds like wiring problem if RS is hooked up right it should crank but wont start till you do the bypass for the passlock. If I remember correctly if you dont do the bypass right and try to start it twice then the car will lock you out for alittle while each time getting longer.

That car should have Passkey III. That system is an RF based system. The key sends an RF signal to the car allowing it to start. If the car doesn't see this signal, it won't allow the car to start.  You either need to use a "key in the box" bypass like the 556u from Directed Electronics, or a data based bypass like the XK01 from bypasskit (or DEI now)

Like others have said, if you stick the key in the ignition and try to remote start it, see what happens. If the car starts, there is a problem with the bypass. If the car still doesn't start, its either a wiring problem or a problem with the R\S unit.

The key should say pk3 on it somewhere.

it does not start with the key in...problem is, everthing wiring diagram i read says that the ignition 2 is a white wire and should only have power when the key is on an possibly when its cranking. another problem is that they say the accessory/HVAC is orange, but all the orange wires at the ignition switch harness show power at all positions of the key. can someone please set me straight?

another update...car starts with remote start when the key is turned to on...i need help with the PKG4 unit. i have power and ground and i got the programming LED to light up, but it doesnt ever blink 4 times to indicate that everything is learned. I have tried both violet wires and got the same result. I really need some help here so please respond ASAP. Thanks

i dont think its an ignition wiring problem anymore now that it starts with the key turned to on (i dont start it with the key). I need advise on bypassing the Passkey 3 system. I currently have a PKG3 module hooked up and the LED lights up but never blinks confirming that it has learned it...whats goin on here? im getting a little irritated. if someone would PM me their number or email i would like to talk to someone who installs these for a living, or is just plain good at it. i know its hard to trust someone off the internet, but im honestly just looking for someone to talk to about it and learn more about the stuff. thanks

I might be crazy....but i don't see anything that says the pkg3 is compatible with that car. Which bypass are you using? You say pkg4 in the beginning and in your last post you say pkg3?
