I'm having trouble with a 2000 taurus. On the door it's manufactured in 1999. All the colors regarding starter, ig, etc all match up except the constant + it's yellow in this car. Anyway, I have ign 1/ign 2 and the acc wire connected. My problem is that it remote starts and runs for about 2 seconds then shuts off. I thought there was a pats unit in the car. I took down the shroud to access the key cylinder and could not find anything except a yellow loomed wire (has 5 wires in it) and the standard wires.
If it has a pats system, where is it, what are the colors? The key used to start it has been copied at the local hardware store, so there is no chip.
Here's one thing that does work... I can remote start it and quickly put the key in... that works. I have tried even connected the BLACK/ red 2nd acc wire with no result. I did find a small gauge green and yellow wire that tests ground when the car cranks with the key.
If it helps, it does have a ford keyless in it. :errr:
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
It sounds like an issue with your tach/voltage sensing. Judging by your key description and the fact that it's cranking at all(Ford PATS on every Taurus I've seen won't let it crank without a valid key) - an immobilizer is not the issue here.
Check to make sure that your tach is programmed correctly or voltage sensing is at the proper level.

To be safe, I think I'll try the tach wire. Do you know where it is?
So you're thinking that it does not have a pats system on it?
one more thing it's doing... you know how a rem start ties to start if it doesn;t the first time? Well, when I go to rem start the car, quickly put the ley in, it runs, then it tries to start the car again... perhaps that is a tach sense issue? It states in the manual to hook up the tach wire to 12V in order to use tachless start... is this true? I have installed a number of these Omega units and simply don;t hook up the tach... they worked fine.
Both 99, and 2k require a bypass. Put the key in the ign. DON'T turn it. try to remote start.
You tach is at the coil pack. use orange / YELLOW

Thank you so much for the reply! Well, that's what tech support and all the charts say. However, as it turn out there is not a pats system in this car. It did turn out to be a tach issue. The tach turned out to be yellow and white at the coil. All I needed was 2 ign, 1 acc, the starter and the tach... now she works perfect!
This car must be one of those in between production things... half of it had 2000 stuff and the other was 1999 and earlier.
Anyway, I love this forum! Thank you all for your help, it'll help make new year's eve a heck of a lot better tonight.
Happy New Year!
