2002 tacoma compustar remote start

This is my first install but I have worked on computers, cars, electronics my entire life.

I am installing a compustar and the alarm portion works. I cannot get the Reservation Mode to work.

I am testing all the wires with a DMM and here are the results for the 4 parts that affect the Reservation Mode

Door Open - Closed .5
EBrake Set - Rest 12
Brake Depressed - Pressed 12 (Is this supposed to be grounded when depressd?)
Hood Open - Closed null

I tested the alarm with both the Door and the Hood pin so I think those are right.

Here is what happens when I try to go to reservation mode

Brake Pressed, set E-Brake (relay operates), release Brake, turn off ignition, truck turns off, short delay 1 second or so, relay operates and light on dash go out.

I have additional questions but getting everything working is 1st priority.

You need to give it a second before you shut the ignition off. Let your foot off the brake.....listen for the click of the remote start.....then shut your ignition off. The vehicle will stay running. Open the door, shut the door, and the vehicle will shut off. Just sounds like you are just shutting the ignition off too soon, which i still do once and a while.

Also, the brake wire should show 12 volt when pressed down.

Sorry I forgot to mention that I am waiting for the relay to operate between removing my foot from the brake and shutting off the ignition.

There is a difference in the way the system behaves when I follow these steps and just shutoff the truck. If I just shutoff the truck there is no delay between ignition shutoff and the dash lights going off.

Sounds like you may be missing an ignition wire. Can you list off the ignition/accessory wires you connected to, and what wires from the Compustar you connected them to. Also, the skinny wire hanging off the 2nd ign/acc relay on the Compustar...what did you connect it to?

Heres is what should be connected. From wiremagic. This doesn't look right at all..... to me anyhows

12 VOLTS	RED (CN1)	White or WHITE/ red	Ignition switch harness	+
IGNITION	GREEN (CN2)	BLACK / YELLOW	Ignition switch harness	+
IGNITION 2		BLACK/ red	Ignition switch harness	+
ACCESSORY		Runs with ignition wire
STARTER	PURPLE (CN2) + Relay for cut	Black	Ignition switch harness	+

What brain do you have? There is a jumper wire on the brain that needs to cut if its a newer version. If you have a CM**** A then you have the wrong brain and your wasting your time.

Check to see if your brake wire is back feeding as well.

It turned out I was missing an ignition wire, I now have the Large blue wire off of the 2nd relay attached to the RED / Black wire at the ignition. The ACC blue/red wire is attached to the white wire.

What skinny wire?

I still don't have the Purple Wire from the same relay as the 2nd Ignition attached anywhere. Should I? Where?

The brain is a CM3000v.3 are you talking about the jumper wire for manual/auto transmission? I need to leave that in tact since it is a manual.

I added a diode to the E-Brake wire is that the brake you are talking about?

Sorry forgot to mention the truck is a Standard Transmission.

I think maybe the problem is within the brake wiring still, if i set the e brake by itself a relay operates, if I step on the brake by itself a relay operates but if do both only the 1st one operates a relay.

Also today when I was driving down the freeway I could hear a relay operating randomly, this could have been noise on the e-brake line I will check again tomorrow now that I have a diode in there.

I am assuming you meant BLACK/ red and not RED / black. The striped color is listed last.

From the manual...
*Pre-wired relay: There is a purple pigtail and also a blue wire that is the
same length as the rest of the wires in CN#1. This relay is used for
adding a 2nd ign or 2nd acc or a 2nd starter in conjunction with connector
#2.

You need to connect the purple skinny wire to pin 3 on connector 2. The wire is green. It provides a (-) output which triggers the relay whenever the remote start tries to activate the ignition circuit. Without triggering that wire, the blue wire you connected to the BLACK/ red will never get power.

Once I connected these wire Reservation mode is now working. Now I need to wire in a clutch bypass relay and set up monitoring of the passenger door which is where my next question is.

With the passenger door since the output from the door switch is +12v with the door closed with either door closed won't the reading be +12v? Or will the one door open cause the circuit to "short" and show ground?

You can all ignore this question, I was trying to make things more complicated then needed. I was thinking I was going to have to wire in a And or NAnd gate... [slaps self] K.I.S.S. and just use the diodes...

I have a new "problem" the Tacoma has auto off lights when the drivers door is opened, but since in Reservation mode the truck is still running when the door is opened/closed the lights stay on.

Is there a way to set this up, or do I just need to get back in the habit of turning off my lights when I get out?

I found the wiring diagram for the auto off feature, but am still not sure how to hook this up. I read a few other topics that say to pulse the door switch but if I pulse the door switch wont that cancel the reservation mode?
