flash/show version w/o xkloader

ok... think i may have messed up here...

for my bypass kit i bought the xk01 from buy.com... however if i am reading correctly in order to flash to latest version i will need to buy the xkloader which looks to be another $50-60 or so.

however what i am concerned about now (since i am about to start my install) is i am not sure what firmware the xk01 will have on it. the buy.com website says "comes with the latest firmware" (which probably isnt true), but will i be able to tell what version it is, but more importantly, what type it is?

what should i do? thanks

should have all firmwares available printed on the label on top of the module with a black box colored in designating which firmaware is flashed to the module. to reflash it you need the software. can buy one with the correct firmware preloaded at bypasskit.com

I bought an XK02 which is preloaded with Nissan firmware. I have an Accord, so I need to flash it with the Honda firmware. I did not know this until after I bought the thing, and I am not prepared to buy a $60 usb interface programmer (XKLoader) to hood it up to the computer.

There must be a way to make a cheap USB interface. There are four wires on the D2D cable, and four wires in the USB cable

      USB uses a four-wire cable interface.
      Two of the wires are used in a differential mode
      for both transmitting and receiving data, and
      the remaining two wires are power and ground.

I wonder if if could be as simple as connecting the correct wires to each other. I would really like to see the inside of an XKLoader. Does anyone have access to one? Can anyone share a picture of what they look like on the inside?

I don't have time to try to upload a picture, but I just popped open my XKLoader and took a look inside.

There's a circuit board with 25 (I counted) components on it, so I think there's more to it than just connecting the USB wires to the module.

OK, I'm screwed now. I called up every local alarm shop in the area to ask if I could pay a fee to have my XK02 programmed. No one has it, and only one guy knew what it is.

Does anyone have an XKLoader for sale? Or, does anyone live in the SF Bay area, who would be willing to let me use their XKLoader? I can pay a usage fee.

Nevermind, I already requested an RMA to return the XK02 to Buy.com. I explained to them that they should not say it works for Nissan/Honda and Subaru vehicles, when the version they sold me was only set up for Nissan/Infinity vehicles. I told them about the three versions: the XK02-NISSDL (Nissan/Infinity), XK02-HODL (Honda/Acura), and XK02-SUBDL (Subaru).

They should have stated that it is the XK02-NISSDL, and in order for it to work for Honda/Acura or Subaru vehicles, it should be modified, by reprogramming it, with the purchase of an additional XKLoader ($60). I'm returning it as "defective" since it did not do what there description said it would do.

I was also deceived by bypasskit.com's compatibility chart. It makes it look like it will work for all vehicles without the need to reprogram. Xpresskit's website links the compatibility chart to the ones and bypasskit.com. They need to fix there marketing information.

The XKLoader works with all Programmable or Upgradeable Xpresskit modules including the: XK01, XK02, XK03, XK04, XK05, XK06, XK07, XK510, XK520, XK530, XK531, and XK532

Anyone considering buying any of these modules should be aware that they may need to reprogram their module and spend extra money on the programmer. I just hope people read this, and don't have to go through what I went through.

I'm glad to hear they're going to at least let you return it.

1. Yes, bypasskit.com's website could be more clear. I wish some of these companies would hire me, as I think I could save them a lot of money from all these returns.

2. Sites like buy.com would be smart to put a sytem in place that wouldn't allow anyone to buy the product without specifying what type of car it's for.
