hi, I have the remote start installed in my 2003 Grand Am. It worked fine for 3 years. Now, if I start the car with the remote, it runs only for 2 seconds. The car runs when I use the key to start. Suggestions?

sounds like the bypass method has quit or come loose-- look for loose wires at the Passlock wires at the ignition switch harness. Is the theft light flashing when remote started and dies? Or the tach sensing wire has come loose- has any underhood work been done lately that can relate to this?---did some mechanic pull the tach sensing wire out? Thanks for your reply. The theft light is not flashing when I start the car with the remote. I also tried starting it with the key in the ignition, - same thing - it starts and stalls after 2 or 3 seconds. Any other suggestions? Thanks!!

Do you know what type of bypass module was used? If the power has been disconnected (replaced the battery, needed to be boosted, etc) will cause the bypass module to need reprogramming. Sit in the car, start it with the key. When running, set it into key off running mode (I'm assuming it's an automatic transmission). If it stays running, then the problem is bypass related. If not, then watch to see EXACTLY what happens. If your vehicle dies, and your dash lights (check engine, etc) stay on for a moment, then your ig2 circuit may be shot - I've had that happen before. If your dash gauges go out, then ig 1 is probably at fault. BTW - check your brake lights - are they all functioning properly?
Did you do the install or a shop? If a shop, then why not take it back and let them worry about it (if they're still in business)?

try to reprogram tach wire....sounds like it fell out of programming...this should be a simple fix

What are the steps for reprogramming the tach signal?

Just start the car with the key, wait until it warms up & reaches idling speed. At the back of the brain, just push a little black button, it should respond with a chirp, then the tach is learned. If you hear 3 chirps, there is a problem with the tach.
