I have installed two ProStart CT3200(Canadian Tire model)on Chrysler Intrepid's recently and have had the problem with the tach signal.
Both units installed fine and worked great at the start. The first one lasted for a day and then failed. It would start the car and then shut it off after about 3 seconds. I suspected it was a lack of a good tach signal and attempted to re-program the tach signal but was not successful. I then reset the unit and reprogrammed up to the Tach signal step but couldn't get it to recognize the tach again. I swapped out the unit and it's now been working for about a month with no problems.
The second Intrepid is a '96 and it worked great for about two weeks. The car then had some sort of electronic problem that appears to have been a battery issue. The owner replaced the battery but the remote start hasn't worked since. The symptom was the same, the car started and ran for 3 seconds and then shut off. We attempted a tach reprogramming first with no luck. We reset the unit and attempted to reprogram but again got stopped at the tach setting, doesn't seem to recognize the tach anymore. The unit won't start the car just flashes the lights to indicate the tach isn't set.
I expect that a new unit will "fix" this problem again but it's a bit frustrating since the entire dash has to come out of the car.
Anyone else have this problem with prostarts? I see Jeff has mentioned that replacement is the best approach.
I should mention that I'm picking the tach signal up at a coil.

i have installed a few prostarts myself. for family friends and customers. I have ran into some issues with the tach as well. replacing a unit will definitly FIX your problem, or moving the tach to coil or injector might fix this issue.

Many older Chrysler vehicles seem to have this problem. I usually use an injector and have no problems. Make very sure that your ground for the remote starter is into the vehicle chassis and not a steel piece inside the dash. Scrape the paint away and use a good silver ground screw. Everything is referenced off this one connection, so if it isn't perfect, neither will the units performance. If you change the ground you must also reprogram the tach setting.
