Subject: 97 contour 2 wire pats

I'm working on a 97 Ford Contour. Directechs states this year car doesn't have a bypass nor does audiovox. But i took it to the dealership and they said it does. I was going to use the 1100f bypass wire the 1B way as stated for the 98 Contour, only to find the ignition cylinder only has 2 wires for the transponder. One wire is black and the other ORANGE / white. I thought these are the TX/RX wire but car ran for 10secs and died. Switched the wire and the same thing. I'm going to upload pics when i can cause there's not a black transponder ring as on most fords. Has Anyone done this car?

1. Have you successfully gotten the remote starter to work with the key in the ignition?

2. Most of those cars didn't have transponders.......I'm thinking it might be only the V6, but I'm not sure.

Above the radio, is a black panel with the word Contour on it. With the car off and the key removed, is there a flashing red light there?

Yes it starts and runs with key in ignition and there is a red flashing light.

Usually pats systems have 4 wires going to them. sounds like you are tapped into the wrong wires.

All the pats systen i've worked on have a green plug. There's only one plug, it's black, and has two wires. One black, other ORANGE / white.I used a 1100f. On the ground i just grounded it to a screw. Ignition wire is on the ignition1(which i metered) and the tx and Rx wires have been switched between the the black and ORANGE / white at pats unit.

Are their different pats systems? the ones I have seen have 4 wires ground ign tx rx..you could easily dissconnect the plug you have and see if the car start, if it does its the wrong plug..just make sure its not an air bag plug/`

100% sure it's not for the air bag.

Have you TESTED the wires? Sounds like they might be a keysense wire you are tapping into. I 'm pretty sure that car doesn't have a transponder in it. What does the key look like? A sure way to tell would be to get a key made for a buck or two from Wally World or a hardware store, and try to start the car. If it starts, no bypass needed.

Key looks like this posted_image. I tried the 97 cent walmart key. Opened the door but won't start car.

Those are definitely  transponder keys so you're on the right path.  I don't have a tech sheet on the 1100F, but are you positive it says that it'll work on '98 Contours? I've looked on Bypasskit.com and they have their data interfaces listed for '99-'00, but all they have listed for '98 are RF interfaces(key-in-box type as well as the 555F).

Where do the 2 wires from the transponder ring go to? I'm thinking there may be a decoder module somewhere nearby that would possibly have TX and RX wires for a bypass, but no promises.

Actually i can't find any bypasses saying it's for a 97 contour. Just 98+. I chose the 1100f cause it only required one key for programming, which is all that's available.

What I was asking, though, is if you have confirmed that the 1100F lists the '98 Contour as a vehicle that it will work on.  BypassKit does not list any data bypasses like the 1100F for the '98s, just '99 and up - that was making me think that there might have been an issue with that model year(and obviously the '97s as well) where it wouldn't learn a data bypass.

It's not listed. in the 1100f. I can't find it listed for any bypasses.

Check out IDataLink's ADS-TBSL FM.

Manual lists the '98 Contour as a compatible vehicle - also you should only need 1 key to program.

EDIT: now that I reread the earlier posts I realized you still hadn't found the actual TX/RX wires - I got this confused with another post where someone had a key-in-box bypass and wanted to run the antenna wires into the TX and RX on a Ford.

Have you followed the 2 wires from the antenna ring to see if they went to a decoder module or something right nearby?
