hello all, new to the forum here but have been around the install scene for years. Currently lost a job and am now installing again in the interum. Over the years i have done mostly stock replacement work, and have had lots of experience in upholstery and design in my custom work. Which leaves a giant hole around security. I have only installed a few alarm systems, mostly cheap run of the mill units and now find myself wanting to install a remote start piece on my wife's maxima. I acquired a python 880xp last week from a customer who upgraded due to damaged remote (go figure) and i am looking to install this unit in the maxima. I believe that i have all the neccessary parts now after a little scavenging of the parts bins, but have some doubts about the install. I downloaded the directechs sheet for the car and the alarm install sheet from DEI but there is alot of grey area regarding the door locks and the remote start. so here are my questions, and hopefully someone can help. Does the car require the 556uw that is listed in the directechs? is the neutral safety switch neccessary on automatic models? Can someone explain the door triggers -/+ and door locks -/+ with any clarity? I was hoping to install the unit over the weekend but guess that i will wait until i have it all figured out first. Also if anyone has any ideas for the ideal place to mount the brain and the relay pack in the maxima please let me know. thanks

Your car has a transponder in the key so yes a bypass is required... The neutral safety wire on the unit can be grounded permanantly on an automatic (ONLY). Your door triggers are (-) so the (+) door trigger wire can be taped off. your locks are also (-) in the drivers door... but your car requires a double pulse to Unlock which can be programmed on that unit. If i were you i would save time and diodes on the install and grab the domelight also (-) as the door trigger instead of taping into all 4 door triggers.... as the domelight comes on when a door is open anyways. hope this helps

I used an iDatalink ADS-ALCA module that did the bypass module, door locks, trunk release, door triggers, trunk triggers, hood trigger & also the tach output all from one module. Saves about an hours of my time and maybe 2-3 hours of yours if you don't do this for a living.

The module is more expensive but will make your life very easy ( if nothing else will make the install easy ). You won't loose a key to a universal bypass module box either. The module is compatible with the Python system as well.

thanks for all the help guys. I will have to say that there is alot more to these things now than when i last installed one years ago. I will probably have to pass on the dome light, as im afraid that the slow dimming light will cause some trouble. I do like the idatalink unit idea however. I visited their website and read up on the unit, and it seems like the way to go. I was wondering however if the datalink feature can be used on the 880? I dont know how that would work, as the unit does not have a datalink port on it, as far as i know anyways. The other problem i am having is that the original remote (479p) for the 880 was damaged and no longer works. I have since located another new 479p from a doa 881, but cant seem to get it to program. I bench installed the 880 today, and was hoping to program the remote before attempting the install in the car, but have had no luck. Once the power supply is turned on the unit triggers and sets the siren and i have been unbale to interrupt or program the remote to stop it. Any Ideas? I know, I know, i should just buy another unit and scrap this thing, but i have relatively nothing invested in it yet, except the bypass module i have yet to buy. Again thanks for the help, hopefully installing next week!

you can only program remotes when a (12v +) or ignition is on. you can wire the ignition in to a switch to fake the learn sequence. As for datalink, if the python does not have the datalink port, doing a few wire hookup is the same. datalink is 4 wires 2 for power and 2 data, but manual setup will be around 10 wires. same thing to be honest and remember the Data kit through the bus system still saved you hours.
