For christmas I got my wife a remote car starter installed in her 2001 PT Cruiser, only the car starter part because she already had the remote Lock / Unlock and alarm fob.   I asked around at my work and the company I went to is well regarded.   But flash foward 1 month.

My wife turned on her rear windshield wiper and:

When the blade sweeps, the car doors try to lock, then relock when it sweeps back.   After much playing around it seems to be only with the rear windshield wiper.   I push the switch and the problem begins, when I toggle the switch to stop, when the blade comes to rest, it tries to lock one more time and no more.

* It happens with all the doors open, and all the doors close.
* It happens when the engine is running or not running
* It *does not* flash the lights like when my remote unlock is pressed.

So I stopped by the place and the owner said it would not be related.

Now I can go to my mechanic and have him look at the problem, and I have looked at the Haynes PT Cruiser Electrical block diagrams but I don't want to start anything until advice from the forum.

For now my wife has been told not to use her rear wiper.   Obviously that is not a long term solution.

Now as for the remote car starter installation, they used a Omega MARS-11 Remote Car Starter https://www.caralarm.com/cart/prodetails.asp?prodid=2764&start=1

The guy that told you it's NOT related.....how does he know?

For him to prove HIS point he needs to remove the R/S from the picture. Easy to do. UNPLUG it!

Turn the car on, turn the rear wiper on....see what happens. You need to be real carefull, some shops REALLY don't like the customer even touching their install. They look for a reason

for it to be your fault, not theirs.

Without proper diagnosis, it's impossible to know the source of the problem.

The installer is either foolish or arrogant not to at least want to look at it.

If you were my customer, I'd thank you for coming back to me first and giving me the opportunity to look at the car before anyone else.

I'd tell you that I have no idea if it's my fault or not until I look at it, but that I'm eager to troubleshoot all of my work (for free), and then we'll see what I find.

If it's my fault, I fix it and apologize.

If it's not my fault, I tell you that I ruled out the installation as a possible source of the problem, and tell you what I did find, so the mechanic/dealer technician has a head start on fixing it.

I'm going to guess what will happen now. You'll take it to the dealership, and they'll blame it on the remote start no matter if it's true or not..........dealer techs aren't anywhere near as good with automotive electrical systems as they'd have you believe.

But eventually, they'll get it fixed, blame the remote starter, and then the installation shop will probably end up stuck with the bill.

By the way, I could easily see the installer accidentally connecting to a windshield-wiper wire........it comes down the steering column in a bundle with all of the car's ignition/accessory/starter/constant/parking light wires..........it would be an easy mistake to connect to a wiper wire instead of something else.

If you think he's a good listener, you might try asking him one more time if he'd like to give his work a quick check-over before you bring to to get repaired somewhere else.

If you do get it repaired somewhere else, and they do find it to be the installer's fault, get it in writing on the repair order.

Not just something vague, but have them write out, in detail, all the hows and whys, so you have something to show to the remote start installer afterward.

Thank you for all your advice.   I will bring it back to the shop for them to take a quick look at it.   Will let you know.
