Ok i'm going to be doing a 98 explorer tomorrow for a friend, and had a few questions.  I'm looking at the wiring info and had a few questions.

1) How do i go about wiring the 3 ignition wires?  I assume i use a relay but is there any links to diagrams on how to do so?

2) Is the neutral safety wire required at all?  Because if it is i'd like to know where it's located if anyone knows and would like to help me out.

3)The only thing i need is a pats bypass correct?  i'll be using the 29402.

4) Is there anything else out of the ordinary i should look out for?

Thanks a lot in advance to all who reply.

Do you have addition negative outputs(ignition/acc)from the Rstart ?

2) Is the neutral safety wire required at all? Because if it is i'd like to know where it's located if anyone knows and would like to help me out.
If its an automatic, just ground the wire.

I'm not sure yet on if it's got extras or not. I'll have to check once i look at the remote start. It's one of the ones that they sell at autozone by dei so i assume i should be halfway decent. I'll have to go figure out the model number and see if maybe i can find out. Thanks i figured i could just ground the neutral safety but was unsure thanks for clearing that up for me.

Thanks for the quick reply i appreciate it a lot.

1)use the bottom picture -  This is of designtechs web site so they show there WHITE/ black ignition 3, but on your system (Which you haven't mentioned what make/model starter you are installing) it could be  called "ignition 3, ground while running, or status output"

https://www.designtech-intl.com/pdf/notes/note234.pdf

2)If the car is a Automatic this wire is not needed, most likely you just need to ground this wire(again you didn't mention make/model of starter)

3)for the your bypass you need give up a key. So one of your spare keys needs to go into the bypass box.

4)I copied the above wiring that Stealth posted and removed the wires you won't need/use. Also for tach I always goto the coil which is located on the top of the engine, back towards the firewall.  Just follow the spark plug wires back from the spark plugs back to the coil. The coil has a connector sticking out towards the firewall if I remember correctly. I pretty much test the 4 or 5 wires in there for a tach. I think it is tan w/stripe also, but I'm not sure if the stripe is yellow.

Also, Here is a link to a 2001 explorer, at the bottom there are pictures, I know its 3 years later but its still a ford. it might help, like how to take out the key cylinder if needed.

Thanks for all the replies i didn't think i'd get replies this quick!

ok so now we have the manual, awesome.  It would be nice to find out if the explorer you have has a factory alarm. If it does you will need to interface with it. If it doesn't you won't need to look for the factory disarm wire or the hood pin wire because they won't be there. You'll have to mount your own hood pin switch if the Explorer doesn't have a factory alarm.  Have your friend do this when he has time:

1) Roll down the Drivers Door window

2) Open the Door and lock the doors using the LOCK switch on the INSIDE of the door. WHILE THE CAR DOOR IS STILL OPEN.

3) Close the car door

4) Wait a good minute. (I don't know what a bad minute is, LOL)

5)Have your friend reach in through the Drivers door window and pull on the INSIDE Door handle opening the Drivers door.. The door will automaticly unlock and either a horn will start honking(Factory Alarm) or it won't(no factory alarm)

6)If the horn starts honking he can disarm it by either hitting unlock on his keyless entry remote OR putting his key in the drivers door OUTSIDE lock cylinder and unlocking the doors with the key

POST RESULTS.

Frank
