what is a valet switch? what does it do?

it allows you to over ride the alarm system and/or shut the alarm down for servicing or detailing. that way the alarm wont set up while you are working on it.

Mainly, a valet switch, (as stated above) is for a way of bypassing the alarm in the event of remote failure.

If your alarm is set for passive arming, then you can use it to bypass this feature for servicing, ie: washing, oil changes, etc.
