no matter what I do i cant get the Car to crank try to bypass the vats with resistors even matched them to the key exactly. same resistence but the damned think wont crank. if yo put the key in the ignition and start the car then push the remote start it grinds the starter. any help tips tricks on this vehicle and vats bypassing would be great. as always thanks

If the remote starter doesn't work properly with the key sitting in the ignition, then it isn't yet installed properly.

It would be easier and less confusing to troubleshoot all other errors first, leaving the VATS bypass for last.

After the unit works correctly with the key in the ignition, then proceed to VATS.

it does work fine but the starter doesnt crank unless the key is in the run position and it doesnt have a brake interlock on it, just cant figure the vats issues out.

Lock / Unlock wires should be either Lt.Blue and White of LtBlue and Black right at the relay pack. As far as you issues with the starter itself, something isn't hooked up correctly. If you start the car with the key and press the remote start, it shouldn't grind the starter, because it should sense that the car is on. What kind of system are you installing? Did you connect and learn the Tach signal?

Install it like everyone will see EVERY part of it.

Issue 1, remote start: Maybe it's the word "grind" that's confusing us.

With the key in the ignition, when you operate the remote start, are you saying that it works perfectly, or that it cranks the starter too much?

Where are you getting the VATS wires in the car, and how are you interfacing with them? Are you using just a resistor to bypass the system permanently, or a resistor and a relay as shown in the install manual?

The correct VATS wires should be two thin (so thin they're hard to work with) white wires, inside a plastic sleeve that could be orange or black. (Note that airbag wires are yellow.....it's defininitely NOT yellow.)

2. Doorlock issue. I've never worked on an '89-93 de Ville, but I've heard other installers on these forums find the same thing you did. I guess the car has a LOT of black wires to test!

Some of them said that they just give up and run the wire into the driver's door and get it at the switch.

Or, as aaronrs4 said, the factory relays are probably high up in the passenger's kick panel, in the fuse box. Operate the doorlocks, listen for the relays clicking, and go there and see what you can find.
