So i went into my local shop the other day to look at how much a viper 5900 would be for my truck, and i ask the guy how much extra it would be to get the glass break sensor installed (the 506t), he says they dont have that part in stock anymore but they do have the 509u, which is an ultrasonic sensor that you mount up on your A pillars. Supposedly it detects air pressure in the cabin, he says it works alot better than the 506t. So basically im just asking if anyone had this ultrasonic sensor installed in their car or know of anyone who has and what their opinions are about it compared to the traditional 506t glass break sensor
The advantage of the 506 is the pre-alert - - - it'll warn you if someone attempts a break-in whereas the 509 will only activate once the perp has penetrated the vehicle, which is a bit late.

I was wondering what happens if you have the ultrasonic sensor installed, and remote start. So if I start my vehicle and the defrost blower is going, and the vehicle is still armed, will that activate the alarm?
The 509 works like a radar. One pod sends a signal and the second receives it. Using an algorhytm, it calculates mass and presence based upon how much of the signal is deflected. Air particles are too small to affect the signal. I tested them on a car with open windows and they never falsed. It did however diminish the effeciency as the signals bounced right out the window.
Also, the sensors are bypassed during remote start. Only the hood, trunk and door switches are active.
