i have a 1999 BMW 323is E36 Coupe NOT the E46 model
i was wondering if anyone knows what kind of clutch switch it has: open or closed?
or where can i find that information?
also how would i hook up a relay to it so that my remote start would work?

If you install a remote start designed for a manual trans you'll be fine!

What type of unit do you have?

i have a scytek galaxy 5100rs...and it says it works with both automatic and manual transmissions but for it to work with manual transmission i have to put a relay on the clutch switch as well as connect the tach wire and the e-brake wire

If you can see the switch on the clutch pedal you'll be golden - usually it's just a little plunger switch mounted on the pedal assembly.

Scytek's wiring info doesn't list any clutch wiring for 3-series around that year, so you'll have to meter the switch to figure out if it's closed or open.

The switch will probably be just 2 wires. Unplug the 2 wire connector. Set your meter for continuity beep, meter the terminals of the switch with the clutch pedal depressed and with it released. If it beeps with the pedal DEPRESSED, use the OPEN circuit diagram in your manual. If it beeps with the pedal RELEASED, use the CLOSED circuit diagram. It really won't matter which wire goes to which pin, or if it's closed, which wire you cut - it'll have the same effect.

one more question...is the tach wire only found in the speedometer pin or elsewhere like the OBD pin for a bmw E36?

clutch bypass. Send a (POS)+ start signal to the BROWN / black at the clutch switch

The tach is found at the diagnostics plug under the hood on the pass. side. It's in the corner by the firewall... the wire is black.

Are there any negative outputs that are used for a second accs. or second start? If so use the extra start output to trigger a relay to send the start signal to the clutch.

i have a question
i think my 99 bmw 323is has a chip in the key,
is there anyway i can bypass that chip so
i can make the remote start work?
or did i wire something wrong that it doesnt start?
...everything lights up in the instrument cluster as it
would if the key would be in the "ON" position but then
nothing happens
and i installed a relay to bypass the clutch

Yes - you need a bypass module such as DEI's 556U which will use a spare vehicle key.
