Installed a RS into a 2003 VW Passat and had an issue testing door lock wires in the door. None of the wires in the door did what they were supposed to be doing. They were supposed to be RED / green (-) and RED / blue (-). I tested using button on door, with key in door cylinder also, I had the door open but engaged the latch so it thought the door was closed, they did not pulse negative so I didn't hook it up for now until I get info. The car also was a standard that I had to use a 689m on. The parking brake only goes hot with ignition on and ground all the time with it off in either on or off position. I found most wires in plugs in firewall. Tach at BLACK/ green at ignition plug front of engine. Everything else worked fine, just those damn door locks. Any info will be helpful.

The wire I'm test'n isn't doin' what it's supposed to be doin'... I am so glad I printed that tech sheet, with the wrong info.
Do it right the first time... or I might have to fix it for ya

Thats one thing I didn't try, I was too frustrated and lost my train of thought in between that vehicle and doing a Hyundai Sonata RS and XM install then replacing a Sirius in a Honda Accord and then back to the VW.

(1) latch the door

(2) use a test light and put the clamp end to ground

(3) poke the RED / green and RED / blue wires(doors should lock and unlock, unlock may need a double pulse).

(4) problem solved. any problems just hit me up

That iDatalink piece looks easy to use. I wish my boss would try one so we could see how it works.

One other thing.... this is NOT the way to test anything.

Ya I tried testing with a jumper wire to ground and blew a fuse. Thats why I quit trying to test for them and ask on here for advice. I appreciate the info on that bypass.
I worked on that car for roughly 8 hours split up between the other odds and ends I had to do and the door lock thing and the parking brake were the only real pain that kept me testing this way and trying that way to no avail. I hope my boss doesn't think I am dumb that I couldn't get it done like in a normal time frame with everything working but it was a VW standard with anti theft on a Friday none the less. The worst day to work on pain in the you know what cars without the proper parts or info. My boss was on the road and his dumb dad was at the shop with me that day. He always asks is it done yet? How much longer? Where are we at on this? He has never installed in his life and always screws up info. I asked him one day for the second key of a PT cruiser and he said the customer has it and wont bring it in until the afternoon. The RS job was just about done at 11:30 am and I started on it at 9:30. It was just about 1:30 and he handed me the second key and asked me, are you done programming the first key yet? Are you serious?? Did he not grasp the concept of opening up the OEM program mode to learn the bypass module? He has worked with his son for a while and shares an office with his son. I would figure the time spent listening to his son tell everyone with a Ford or new Chrysler's they need to bring both keys, he would understand the reason. Sorry had to blurt that out. Thanx Extreme1 and KarTuneMan for advice again.

techman93:

The shop I worked at (the one that floated away) the boss would take a call, give a deal, and not even ask the year of the vehicle. Thats where the headache started....

Followed by all of the things that you pointed out, right down to having NEVER installed even a radio, his entire life!posted_image
