I'm thinking about installing a couple relays so I can use the keyless entry that came with my remote car starter I just installed.

In particular, I'm looking at this.

I've been told that I need to also disable the alarm, but I'm really not sure why.

The wire I plan on tapping into is the Pink/Violet wire on the back top left corner of the fuse box. This is the signal wire from the left door lock switch, therefore when the remote keyless is activated the Body Control Module will see it as if someone had simply locked, or unlocked the doors from inside the passenger's compartment. This should arm, or disarm the factory alarm just as if someone were locking or unlocking the doors from inside the vehicle.

Is this correct?

If the alarm were designed like that, it wouldn't be a very effective alarm. To disarm the factory alarm you need to send a ground pulse through a 430 ohm resistor to the light GREEN/ orange wire in the gray 22 pin plug of the BCM. You must use relays to send a solid ground through resistors when working on Chrysler/Jeep vehicles. This wire only disarms the alarm. You still need to wire up the lock and unlock wires. The factory alarm will arm if you activate the door lock wire and pulse the driver's door pin wire to ground.
