Hi, I've been hunting on the forums for a bit but not getting straight enough advise for some concerns I have prior to tackling this job.  I'm doing a compustat alarm & start in a 96 explorer XLT i believe with factory security.  It does have a theft light on the speedometer..  here are the questions..

1.  How do I get by the dome light delay?

2.  I've noticed a lot of people are having issues with the doors unlocking after remote starting.  Should I not hook up the disarm or should I etc?

3.  I found the factory hood pin but it has 2 black wires coming off of it.. Can this be used at all or do I have to add one myself

Any help is appreciated.. thank you in advance.

1. Use the door triggers and diode isolate them. Taken from DEI " To avoid the dome light delay and dome light time-out use the separate door triggers. In the drivers kick panel find yellow/black for the drivers door, lt. GREEN/ YELLOW for the drivers rear door, and WHITE/ purple for the rear hatch. In the passengers kick panel find gray/red for the passenger front door, and pink/lt. blue for the passengers rear door. All five wires are negative trigger and must be diode isolated together."

2. Pulsing the disarm wire is not going to unlock the doors. Where did you 'notice a lot of people are having issues with the doors unlocking after remote starting'? You need to hook up the FAD to keep the alarm from going off when you try to RS the vehicle.

3. Tan/Lt. Green in the driver's kick panel, is a negative trigger hood pin wire. This wire will go to ground when the hood is open, use this.

well i'm one of them on my own '97 explorer. didn't used to do it. just one hot (very hot) georgia summer day it started to do it and has done it most times ever since. did it when i had a clifford matrix rs in there and still does with a viper 771. gonna be putting in an avital 4400 prolly soon, but it'd still do it. for poops and grins i disconnected the FAD to see if that's what was doing it but to no avail. been to busy to look into it as to why it's doing it. hoping for a nice warm day before too long to check it out. i also had a customer come back in with their '97 explorer doing the same thing. i explained to him what mine did and he just said he'd come back in a few months.

on a side note, be sure to check the functionality of the factory hood pin if you're going to use it. mine was intermittent so it wouldn't always start.

cool thanks guys.  this dome light delay sounds like a real pain..   is there absolutely no other way to do this?

I am not familiar with the Compustar line, but with the DEI products I install there is a programmable option that tells the system to ignore the dome light delay. If the Compustar has this option you can use the BLACK/ light blue positive dome light trigger.
