do you have to hook up the 2nd acc.wire to get the defroster to work with a XK01 in a 04 silvervado with a clifford 50.5 or should you hook up the blue and white  2nd status wire?

Assuming you're talking about the rear window defogger and not the front defroster -

You may be able to connect the blue/white status output to the defogger relay directly (assuming it's got (-) switched and (+) constant to the other side of the relay coil), in which case the brown 2nd acc. wire would probably not be necessary; however you may also have other HVAC components which get powered up by the brown wire.  Every '00 and up Silverado I've ever done I've connected the 2nd acc.

I would suggest that you connect the 2nd acc. - you could still also hook up the blue/white 2nd status if you wanted separate control of the defroster from the clifford. I'm not familiar with it but I know DEI's other new remote starts have it programmable with the remote to turn the defogger on/off.

As far as I recall the xk01 should turn on the defrosters via data
so the connection that you should have made at the obd connector. It should just do it when the temp hits below 0 or 32.

Where I work we don't hook up the second accessory wire, and it's always worked to turn on the defroster when it's cold enough out. So you should be fine.

it has been below 32 and the XK01 has not turned on the rear defogger, that why i thought i might need to hook up the 2nd acc wire

Stupid question - are you sure that the defogger isn't working without turning the lights on?  There's a not remote possibility that if it's being activated by data that won't do a thing to the indicator on the climate controls - I've activated plenty of defoggers at the defogger relay with no dash light on.

you have to have the staus output turned on  for rear defogger then you can turn it on via the remote transmitter.

the 2nd acc on 03-06 chevy full size powers up on its own after the vehicle is running.

so to make sure it works i should hook up the blue/white 2nd status/deffoger wire to the white wire in the bcm (i think its that one) and reprogramm the cliifford the turn it on through the remote. right?

No, the whole idea of the XK01 is to not have to do that.

I would wait until it's cold and dark (so the sun's not hitting your window), remote start for a few minutes, and see if the back glass feels warm.
