I am wiring a Viper 5900. The RED / white wire for channel 2 is (-)output, which i will be using for trunk release, the wire in my car is Trunk Release VIOLET/BROWN (-) AT SWITCH IN DASH. Would i need to use a relay? If so, would it be wired like this? 85 going to RED / white wire from R/S unit. 86 to ground, 87 also to ground?
Which of the 2 87a and 30 would go to the trunk release wire?
Thanks for any help.

instead of using a relay, i was told i can just use a 4700 ohm resistor? is this correct?
Thanks for any help.

Just connect the RED / white wire directly to the wire at the switch. There is a slim chance you would need to use a relay. If you actually told us what car you were working on, we would know for sure.

Be aware of the fact you "might" need to disarm before popping the trunk.posted_image

Ok, thanks a lot for the help, what about headlights, is a relay needed for those?
So for the trunk, just the 4700ohm resistor?

NO resistor needed. Just connect the wire directly.

i've only done a few of the new dodges but i know i had to use a relay for the truck release on either a 300c or magnum before. it wouldnt work with just the negative pulse from the brain.

violet/brown (-) in the dash. well i know for sure you will use a relay. the output on that unit isnt sufficiant for popping the trunk. if you dont use a relay, you might burn that output on the viper. i suggest you use the relay, its cheap anyways. also set your unit to disarm upon trunk and rearm after 1 min or until you press lock.

1) If so, would it be wired like this? 85 going to RED / white wire from R/S unit. 86 to ground, 87 also to ground?

the way you have it set up, the relay wouldnt even work since you are sending 2 negatives to the coil.

85 - constant 12v
86 - RED / WHITE (-) from viper
87 - ground
30 - trunk release wire, motor side.
