I just bought a 96 GMC Sonoma from my father in law. It has a Astrostart AstroFlex 500 installed in it. It no longer works. Through reading things on this site, I have learned that it is displaying a trouble code 8 after a failed start. The book reads like this:
8 Main switch in "OFF" position or thermal protection (P2-9 and/or P10 to P17 overloaded).
The P13 (On/Off switch) and p15(antena) are the only things pluged into the p10-p17. It recieves a signal, so i dont think there is an issue with the p15, and it is getting power so i don't think its the p2-9(+12v), and the on/off switch is in the on possition, so i don't think its the p13 either. Any sugestions on how to isolate the issue without a volt meter?
UPDATE: I also tried unplugging the p13 and p15, seperately, and it continued to flash the code 8.
The p15 is for the receiver.... if the unit gets the signal and will lock and unlock there is no problem with that.
If the p13 is unplugged it won't do a thing on remote start. To check to see if the switch is bad, cut the wires that connect to the switch, strip them and twist them together.
Make sure you cut them far enough away from the switch so you can reconnect it later.
Where is the bypass getting 12 volts? If your getting from the p2-9 unhook it and get it from the main harness.
There should be NOTHING plugged into the p10. I have never used the programable timer.....it's not real popular!
PM ppg231, he is Mr. Astrostart.
