Is the 2nd acc(brown) necessary for remote start?  I see it has 12v at the keys ACC position.  I don't want to wire it if it doesn't need it.  Seems to me that it's just for the radio.

I hooked it up in one I did.  One time i skipped a acc wire because it seemed to only power the radio and The vehicle had to come back in for service I hooked up the acc and the problem was gone.

On a few select GM vehicles the Brown accessory wire is required, but it isn't needed for a 2005 Grand AM. If you do decide to use it, you should pulse the driver's doorpin after the remote starter shuts down to disable the retained accessory power that keeps the radio on for 10 mins after key off.

Thanks guys.  I went ahead and wired it.  I'm using an XK01 so hopefully I won't have to pulse the doors.  If so, I'll just cut the acc from the r/s. posted_image

one important thing that u have to remember when you connect  to this brown wire is what  ever wire you use from the rs program the wire to be off during crank if you have it in the program menu. if not just use a relay off the other accessory wire from the rs going to the orange wire of the car to connect to the brown wire of the car. you may also have (-) accessory wires from the rs to control the relay.

I don't power the brown in that car, but it won't hurt if you do.

With the brown powered, the wipers can work during remote start, which could be a problem if the wipers are frozen in place, but the wiper switch was left on when the car was parked.

Regardless of whether you powered the brown or not, the radio in that car will come on with remote start.

The XK01 is supposed to shut the radio off, but I've heard that it doesn't work properly. If you have the "Bootloader" programmer to update it, there's a new firmware (AMDL 6.01 I believe) that's supposed to fix it.

If not, just connect your remote starter's "pulse after shutdown" output to the car's GREEN/ black driver's door trigger wire in the kick panel.

I finished this up the other day.  I wired up the brown acc wire and I had to pulse the driver's door trigger to kill the radio.  The XK01 didn't do squat for me but bypass the key and trunk pop.  It would only unlock the driver's door and wouldn't sense the door trigger.  I had to re-wire the locks and door trigger(s) to the alarm from the BCM.  GM didn't leave me too much slack on the ign. wires either.  They were kinda tough to solder.  I thought I could be slick and pull the whole ignition cyl. out, but it had the cable going to the gearshifter, so that didn't work.

The best way to access the ingition harness in that vehicle is to remove the radio and you can get to the harness easier from there.  Gives you a little more wire to splice into.

Yeah, that's how I got to them.
