i have a 2001 BMW 330i and i'm installing python 880xp security system. i know i need to add a relay for the parking light. correct me if i'm wrong, i'll need a relay for the trunk release as well. are any relays needed for the lock and unlock function? and how do you wire for double pulse unlock to unlock passenger doors? thank you

I just did my buddies 03' 325 ci, I did not have to hook up the parking lights, they pulsed themselves off the lock and unlock wires. the 01' may be the same.

You wil need a relay for the trunk release, its a gray/green wire in the passenger (right hand side) floor loom and pos. going. You don't need relays or a double pulse, locks are neg , WHITE/ black to lock and blue /red to unlock, extend lock pulse to 20 secs to effect total (comfort) close.

I've only done one of these cars, a 2005 3-series?
2005 should be the same, right?
I didn't hook up trunk in my installation, but I did find a trunk-release switch in the driver's kick panel. It seemed to just be a low-current ground.
Also, instead of going behind the glovebox for the doorlock wires, I found them where they come in from the driver's door, by removing the kick panel.
Even though the tech sheet says "double pulse," I found that: one pulse would unlock just the driver's door, and a second pulse would unlock all the other doors.
If you want your aftermarket system to work like this, you could just connect your "first unlock" and "second unlock" outputs both to the same wire in the car.

Sorry, UK spec cars don't have a trunk release button, it's only on the remote factory remote control, that's why I said grey/green pos motor wire about 5 amps draw. Also I couldn't agree more with Chris about not removing the glovebox, over here EVERYTHING bar the l/hand brake light blue/black is in the right hand (driverside lower section), I never need to remove the glovebox, I've even revised DEI's UK sheet for them. We also go to the indicators not side lights and we have to go to to the light switch with a 3 x 2N54xx diode feed on each white cable! Some points about the E46 1N4xx diodes on each trunk light (RED / yellow) 12v+ cable at the lights, band towards lights, there is back EMF on arming and if you don't do this you will trip the alarm on every 3rd or so arm. Use the purple acc as the 2nd ign. It won't start if you don't. Feed the R/S acc directly to the radio's purple (use a 2N54xx diode on normal feed before the join) if you want retained acc power, white /brown in right hand floor loom is trunk contact, door locks I mentioned before, and VERY VERY important if you use the 556UW, set to European cars without using its antenna, place ONLY the grey valet key in it. Use of normal key wiil inhibit remote locking via the Viper's remote. On the ignition loom RED / blue and RED / green are your feeds sufficient to supply the R/S, light green = ign 1, purple = ign2, BLACK/ white (or BLACK/ blue secondary colour may vary) Tach is thin black on the OBD socket, door contact is RED / blue POS to under dash floor light (next to OBD socket) Yes I've done quite a few of these and told you some things DEI wont! (or can't) Yes I have done loads of these and I DO use fabric
