Subject: adding the horn to an alarm

I have the Viper 5900 and would like to have the horn sound when the alarm is activated. Can I just use a relay or do I need to install a diode? If yes to a diode, how do I wire it?

you have the siren right? do you want to use the factory horn ? if so you might need a relay.

85 - horn wire (-) from unit
86 - constant 12v
87 - ground or 12v (depends on polarity of horn wire on car)
30 - to horn wire on car.

if you plan to ADD a siren you will use a relay as well

85 - ground
86 - siren wire (+) from alarm module
87 - high current 12v
30 - to both postive terminals of the siren(s)

The siren is already connected and I want to add the horn. So, I don't need to use a diode?

nope no diodes. use the siren output to trigger an addidtion horn OR use the HORN (-) 250mA output from the viper to trigger factory horn.

Sorry for thread jacking, but I have Air horns Im running instead of my stock horn to my 5900. Would I use the Brown wire with a relay to them or the ORANGE / black with a relay?

I figured that. But brown wire or the ORANGE / black. Or does it not matter?

Brown wire will give a constant output, ORANGE / black wire will give a pulsed output. If you connect it to a constant output, your neighbors will probably be over to strangle you whenever you have a false alarm.

Whoa Whoa Whoa......there is a small pin on top of the alarm....you need to use THE BROWN wire...it is a negative trigger.  If you use the ORANGE / black it will do nothing...that wire is a channel.  The brown wire will pulse only when the alarm goes off.  I have gotten away just tapping into the negative horn relay wire without the use of a relay.

.....Well what I really want to do is hook up my Stock horn and also my Air horns to the alarm. Would I be fine running the BROWN wire (with a relay) to my stock horn.  Then the ORANGE / BLACK wire (with a realy) to my Air horns?  This might be alittle overkill.....so I might try just the Air Horns and decide on the stock horn after I hear that posted_image

If you hook up your air horns and use the factory horn to trigger them...ie. when you press the horn the air hors also go off then all you need to do is just tap into your factory horn which will trigger the air horn anyway.....the ORANGE / black wire will NOT DO NOTHING if you connect it .  That wire is an extra channel output not an output when the alarm goes off.

Does anyone know the color of the horn wire in the steering column or under the dash. Also is it a positive or negative trigger wire? I want to avoid running the wire from the dash to the horns under the hood, 05 Impala.
