I am adding an aftermarket power window kit to my 2000 Ford Ranger and every thing was going great until I had to wire in a power source. First I wired it into the radio and that didn’t go over well, so I started to think where I could splice it in to. So I was looking around in the owner’s manual and I noticed that there is a fuse for power windows in my fuse box. So I took out the fuse box to see where the wire goes and I can’t see it with out cutting out a bunch of stuff. So I looked at the wire and it is a red wire with a light blue stripe. Then I looked on this site to see where that wire goes and it said that it was the starter motor. So to check this I took the fuse out of the box and started the car and it started and every thing was working properly, but before I splice in to it I really want to know what the wire goes to. I know that newer cars are all ready wired for all the options but the wires that are in my door panel are different then the one that goes to the fuse. Can any one help me out with my problem?

the wires in my drivers door are; yellow with a black stripe, green with orange stripe, light blue with a white stripe and black. also the wires that are in the doors are smaller then the ones that are connected to my aftermarket window motor.

tedmond: He is putting in aftermarket power windows, not a power window controller.

If the ranger doesn't have power windows you run the wires yourself through the door jam rubber boot. A high current source is required not at the back of the radio for gosh sakes. That would be a fire waiting to happen.
If you want run an 8 awg wire in through fire wall and put a distribution block. Fuse that power lead 12 inches off the battery with a good 40a fuse and fuse holder. That will give you the best current to run power windows. Make sure they only operate when vehicle key is in the run position. You can use a relay to do that. The last kit I installed had lighted switches that I made illuminate when the lights came on. You need to tie into the parking light wire which normally in ford is brown at the switch.

The wire I'm test'n isn't doin' what it's supposed to be doin'... I am so glad I printed that tech sheet, with the wrong info.
Do it right the first time... or I might have to fix it for ya

Right now I have the windows wired into the battery and when ever I park the car I pull put out the inline fuse so that you can't roll down the window when the key is not in the ignition.

The easiest thing to do would be to connect directly to the power window fuse at the fusebox. Meter the two terminals with the fuse removed and ignition on, and connect your lead to the one that doesn't show 12v+.
Also, the wiring info on this site and anywhere else says that the starter wire is RED / blue - but it doesn't say the opposite(i.e. it doesn't mean every RED / blue wire is used for the starter).
