Hi;

I have a 99 Explorer that I want to install a remote start for. It has a factory alarm, but does not use a PATS Key.

Will the remote start unit have to trigger a door unlock(to disable factory alarm), start the vehicle, and then lock the vehicle(to re-instate the factory alarm)?

What is the best way to interface with the factory alarm?

I am thinking about going to the power lock relays because they seem easier to find then the one wire out of about 150 in the driver kick pan area. Is there any problems with that or any better ideas?

No it will not have to lock/relock there is a dark GREEN/ purple wire in the kick panel that goes to ground when you unlock the door with a key. This wire is the factory alarm disarm wire, hook your remote starter factory alarm disarm (FAD) wire to this wire.

To arm your factory alarm is a little tricky on that truck because the door needs to be open when locking for it to arm. To do this you would need to send a ground to the yellow/black door trigger wire at the same time you send your lock pulse.

The door lock wires are easy to find in the kick panel. Just take your time and you should have no problems with that installation.

There is one other way to arm your factory alarm. (if your rig has the key pad on the outside of the door)

In the drivers kick you look for a yellow, and a red. (2 wires) the yellow is the 7/8 button, and the red is the 9/0 button.

Diode isolate and trigger together negative. Arems with the door closed. Then use the GREEN/ purple to disarm.

If your rig does NOT have the keypad....... never mind. posted_image
