Subject: astrostart rm711 in 95 impreza manual

I have a 95 subie impreza brighton, with manual everything (trans, locks, windows, etc). I want to put in a remote starter, just a remote starter tho, not anything else (nothing else would work anyways, like keyless entry). I've heard many good things about AstroStart remote starters, and i decided on the RS711 unit. The only places I could find it online were for $150.

I talked to Colin at "Sounds Fast" in Bend, oregon. He said they had the 2101 unit (their last one) and that it is the same as the RS711. He also qouted me $250 installed. I tried to give KarTuneMan a call, i'm sure he'll see this post anyways. Would you (kartuneman) have a better deal on the RS711? or a better price to install, anything like that? plus you're closer to me than Sounds Fast (bend, or), since i'm in portland.

Also, would i have any problems doing this install?

thanks
-Eliot

Sorry I didn't get your call Eliot.

$150.00 for the 711 sold over the counter (not installed) is a good price..... a fair price.

All be it risky. No warranty.

Part of being an authorized dealer, not a grey market on line supplier, is not to sell the product uninstalled.

I would love to have authorization to sell the product like that.... the 12 volt could generate some sales for me.

I would say to you, buy the one you found. It's a good unit at a fair price.

You will also need the RS-MI  manual interface.

heres the two places i found it
https://www.stereoconnection.ca/shopping/product_info.php/cPath/40_126/products_id/1179?osCsid=7b5de25044b3d735badb01d25dcd64da
https://www.superbeegt.com/retail/remote_starters.htm
they say limited lifetime warranty

but i digress.
is the 2101 series the same as the rs-711xr?
and you say i need a special interface? what exactly do you mean

thanks

special interface is needed since you got a manual tranny car. The addon interface allows th car to enter a reservation mode, which allows the car to start NOT in gear. DEI offers the same unit called the 689m. so it just prevents you leaving the car in gear.

I cannot find anything from Astro that says 2101. They did have the 2106. But this is a unit with locks trunk etc. on the transmitter.

So i would need to buy additional equipment besides just the RS711 setup to get it to work in my manual trans car? the RS711 manual didnt say anything about that. tho it wasnt really an install manual. is there an installation manual?
the manual for the rs711 seems to bypass the need for a sensor if the car is still in gear. the manual lists the safety procedure like this:
1. stop car, foot on brake
2. neutral
3. pull ebrake
4. turn "off" key (car stays on)
5. get out and when you close the door, the car shuts off, ready to be remote started

you cant very well get out of the car if the car is in gear!

let me just bump this to get a response. what extra equipment would i need? (can you link me to it or give a part #)

for example this link here:
https://www.superbeegt.com/retail/remote_starters.htm
it does say the same thing: "Manual interface required on manual transmission applications".

so i just want to know what specifically that is, with a picture if possible

thanks

KarTuneMan do you recommend any places in portland that i could take the starter unit to have it installed for around $100? the guy in bend (Colin) said they would install the RS711 for 280 (incl. starter) but i dont really want to drive down there...

YES, I do have one 35.00 on your door.

If I was to bid that job as you want it.... just a starter for a manual trans the 711 (1) button.

275, 280 is about right.
