i have an astro start 2006 that was taken out of an older truck and put into my work truck. (2001 Chevy 1500) the 2006 worked in the old truck but now is not working. i didnt do any of the installs. i am getting a "hood open" problem code. everything else works, but the truck wont start with the remote. i have checked the hood pin and its fine. i disconnected the hood pin wire from the 2006 module and put an ohmmeter on that pin. i have continuity to ground through the module (with actuall hood pin wire completely disconnected) is this a programming issue or is the module wrecked? do you have an install manual for an astro start 2006?
thank you!
what unit are you installing the 2504a or the 4204(model number) or is it older 2106???
first try to remove the hood pin wire from the install and disconect the hood pin wire at the hood pin as it is possible the hood pin is not hitting the hood and leaving the connection open therefor not allowing it to start
if this does not work then it is possible that on the prep for the remote start the hood pin wire is grounding out try cutting the wire near the brain (its the black /red wire) leaving enough wire to reconnect later
if it does not work at this point then the brain of the unit is bad i have never seen this problem and i install these units at my dealership me and my partner installed over a thousand of these units last year alone(but with electronics anything is possible)

this was a known problem in older astro units...ground the BLACK/ red wire thru a 10k ohm resistor, problem solved.

Tony remembers..... It's not really a problem, it's just that most units used a standard grounding hood pin, the older Astros did not. It was magnetic.

thank you for the help. the resistor totally fixed the hood pin issue. now that thats fixed, i think i have a tach issue. the vehicle will not stop cranking. the BLACK/ green tack wire from the unit is connected to a purple wire on the cylinder. im not sure if this is the correct wire and im not sure how to program the cylinder setting since i dont have the install manual.
i found the tach wire. now how do i program cylinder setting. cant seem to find the right setting. vehicle either keeps cranking or cranks quickly but wont start.
After the truck is warmed up, from the off position. put 1 567 up, start the truck with the key and hit the brake. This will learn the tach. When this is done put all the switches down and hit the brake.
