Hello all it is my first post here please be gentle with me!

I have just purchased a mazda mx5 mk1 and it has a code alarm keyfob with it. I purchased a new 12v battery for the keyfob and still it does not set the alarm. I have tested the keyfob with a multimeter and a logic probe and on pressing either button there is a pulsed output from the keyfob so I think it is working correctly. This means the problem is at the alarm module end in the car. There is a siren in the engine bay but no module control box. The module must be fitted somewhere inside the car but I dont know where. Does anyone have any ideas where to locate the module in my mazda mx5? I dont know which particular model of the code alarm I have until I find the module for it. I have already looked behind the drivers side panel it is not there. What I found there though near the ignition is a grey/red thin wire which isn't connected to anything it looks too thin to be a car wire in my opinion.

Any assistance would be appreciated, thanks, Mark.

do you have the manual? if not get under the dash to find out which model. you will need to program the remotes again.

Hello Tedmond thanks for the quick reply. I am having great difficulty in tracing the module in my car. I have been under the ignition panel where I managed to trace the siren wire to +12v and the black wire to the siren goes to a relay which is laying next to the ignition wiring loom. The only other place I can think the module is maybe behind the centre console of the dash but i think this will be difficult to remove.
There must be a module because there is an LED in the centre console which will flash when the alarm is activated. It is very difficult to see far under the dash behind the centre console. Is there a common method of programming the code alarm fobs? I read somewhere there should be a small switch usually under the drivers side of the dash to press to enable remote programming. I have not found this either though.

Thanks for your help, I may need to find time to take out the centre console just to find out if the module is behind.

some installers dont bother putting in the valet/programming switch.
