Hi all,

I've been planning to put a remote starter on my 04 Acura MDX myself and after researching I found this is not a DIY project for MDX.

Please be advice if this is not a DIY project.

I've been planning to install a Compustar 2W900 FMR and use Fortin Honda SL-3 as the immoblizer bypass.

To me, with the immbilizer bypass and with it's 2 way communication with the MCU so it'll cut down a lot wring and I believe this is a possible DIY.

Thank you for all replied.

This is not a first time DIY project to venture into. On a professional level of 0-10 for difficulty on this vehicle, I'd say this would be a 5 but for someone with little or no electrical/ignition back ground I'd rate this 8-9. Unless you want this vehicle sitting in your garage without a dash for days on end, I'd suggest a professional installation.

I usually all for DIY projects, but in the case of a remote start etc (unless its a 93 accord^^) I'd agree with Velocity and recommend a professional install if you aren't 1000 percent confident that you can complete the install by yourself. I'd suggest looking HERE to find a installer in your area that is willing to install your system for ya. Good luck and let us know what you decide and how things turn out.

Thank you for all advices,

I do have an electronics and electrical background, I'm currently in the RV electronics industry and I used to be working in field service for RVs.

But for alarm and remote starter, this would be my 1st installation.  I've been doing research and reading all manuals, installation guide for the remote starter and immolizer module I'd like to put on my MDX.  I don't have a problem understanding the remote operation and their wiring diagram, also all the settings and configurations.

With the electrical wiring diagram for MDX in hand and with the remote installation guide, I don't think I have a problem installing them correctly and exactly the way the installtion guide said and if the it's straight forward like what's in the installation guide described as well as the remote starter, immobolizer modules compatible with the MDX like what's the manufacturer said  then I'll be in a good shape.

The only thing I'm worrying about is unexpected issues or twist I have to deal with, since I don't have experience with MDX alarm and remote starter installation so I don't know if I'd be able to figure it out once I have a problem.

Like all of you have advised, I don't want to face the worst case where the MDX sitting in my gargage for days and never able figure it out if I have to face with unexpected issues.

To this point, I don't even see 1 person install the MDX remote starter themselves so I'm kind of nerverse too.  I'm still doing more research and think about it more before I deicide if I should do it myself or let the installer do it.

Thanks all !

I have a 03 mdx that I installed an audiovox 996 i believe. Its been a while. But realistically i would say just go pay to have someone do it. You already have the part. The day that it will surely take you to do it at least, would be well worth what a pro would charge. I know there are some things not covered completely within the manuals, like factory alarm arm/disarm... audiovox brushes over it while being pretty detailed on other things like door locks.
