I have a 2008 Toyota Tacoma double cab long box 4x4 and I want to purchase a Snugtop Supersport canopy. I want to get it with the keyless entry option and would like to have a plug prewired in the driver's side rear of the truck bed with 12v+, ground, brake+, and reed switch inputs to trigger the dome light when the canopy door is opened. Does any one know how Snugtop integrates their keyless entry system into the factory remote? I was going to use the negative trigger wires in the drivers kick and wire them into two relays (adding aftermarket actuators method) and then run the two output wires into the plug in the truck box. This will work if the canopy keyless entry uses a two wire actuator but I'm not sure. I don't want to prewire the keyless entry ahead of time while waiting for the canopy on order and then find out it isn't compatible with their system. I went on the Snugtop website and all they advertise is keyless entry available. I found some info on ARE canopies and they use a solar powered system (wireless). I would like to use the relay method because I don't mind the extra wiring work, but I don't know if it is possible. The dealer didn't seem to know much about it either.

I've never used this company's product - however the various power door lock integration setups I've seen for tailgates/caps have all consisted of a 2 wire actuator and nothing more. You can be reasonably certain yours will be the same way.

It's not even really necessary to use relays - you just wire the actuator in parallel with the factory doorlock actuator motor leads. Wire to the driver's door motor leads if you want it to unlock with the first press of "unlock" on the remote, and any other motor leads to unlock on the second press.

Thanks for the reply. Good point, I guess I don't need relays. I don't think one extra after market actuator will put enough current draw on the factory doorlock circuit to cause problems. I'll wire it right off one of the rear door actuators so it will unlock with the second press of the remote. If the canopy has some other system, I will worry about it once I see what it has. Thanks for the advice.
