What are you looking for in an alarm? There is really nothing special about that alarm so you could get much more for that kind of money somewhere else. You can get a 2 way FM Starter/Alarm combo for a few more bucks than that. Take a look here:

Try going to this site and get something similar or better for half that price.

I'm not a pro or nothing on this subject, but I have always used Alpine in the past and never had a problem.  There product is  vary relable and the service was always excellent.  I have a dei now, it is okay to I think (Gift).  I guess alot has to do with who installs the product.

Yeah I wasnt ragging on Alpine, I was just saying that depending on what you are looking for in alarm, you can get a lot more for your money.

The 8063 is a great unit for security. The only beef I have with mine is the range sucks ( like any other Alpine ). other than that the expandable features are great and the standard features are also awesome.  The 150R I heard is OK, but I would dish out the extra cash for the 8063 if your heart is set on Alpine and you won't be disappointed.

I totaly agree with Jeff, They may cost a little more, but vary expandable atleast i thought so, my last car 1984 Grand Prix had everything Alpine could install in it.  It was a target for thiefs. If they  could get in they could keep what ever it was they were looking for.. I thought the range was alot better than the dei (rattler 300)I have know, but maybe like I said this is because of the install .   Anyway good luck.

are commando alarms any good?

Commando has great standard alarms. They offer the standard protection features that protect your car, but they do not include any of the otional add-on possibilities like radar sensors or backup sirens, but if you are into taking extreme measures to protect your car you can always add things to the alarm. If you get a 2 way unit though you wont necessarily need much extra since you will be notified of an intrusion, even if a thief disables the alarm in less than 10 seconds. Now that I know what it is like to have a 2 way unit i couls never live without one.

what do u mean by two way?is that the pager module?

Well there are pager monitors, which are seperate units that you can add to any alarm which is only a one way unit where the alarm sends messages to the pager that you carry in addition to the alarm transmitter.

Then there are 2 way units that the transmitter has a LCD screen and it confirms any commands when in range. these will also give you a greater range then most alarms since they use FM technology.

Look at this unit: It is a starter/alarm combo, but you dont need to hook up the starter features if you dont want to, although if you do it will only add about a half hour to your install time:

hey man, thanks for the info.i really like that commandoa alarm.is it as good as the alpine sec 8063?i really want an alarm that i can add a backup battery and have the option to add more sensors later.

It doesnt have an internal battery backup option, but you can ass that if you wish. I think a backup siren would be more effective since you can just cut or unplug all of the wires going to an alarm and that would make a backup battery useless, but with a back up siren once the power is cut, it stays on until the battery dies or you override it with a key.

I am not familiar with the Alpine, but you should be able to add anything you want to this alarm. And there are some inexpensive, simple and effective ways to make a car safer than an alarm can. The alarm is just the first line of defense. And the fact that this one is a 2 way unit makes them uncomparable.

Email me if you are interested in a FM-5005.

here are a couple alarm/starter combo's that are pretty good for the prices  $ 65.00 - $ 95.00..   Ebay has a Delta Pro alarm starter I have used for someone and they liked it, Look for Ultra Start 2250LT, Also a Autopage 550.  these all have the most common starter alarm reatures....P.S no need to spend 125.00 to 200.00 on a starter/alarm like Alpine( not unless you get one for a deal)....
