I have a 98 Escort with an Astrostart model 2100.I discovered it is equipped from the factory with a trunk release, but they don't power it up in the low end Escort. With the Astrostart, I believe I should be able to hook this up so it works with the trunk release button on the remote. I need to know which wires to use,and do I need to program the remote for this. I found the trunk wire and connected 12 volts to it and it pops right open. Can anyone help me?

There is a neg trunk wire, if you can't find it then you can use the following diagram to hook up the trunk.

Use the white wire on pin 15 of P2 connector, which is default for trunk release.

Your only going to find the locks and trunk release in the vehicle if the vehicle has a lock switch on the inside of the door.

The 12v + output wire is HOT all the time. If I understand correctly, the Negative wire (white) is to complete a circuit as long as a hood/trunk is open so the car won't start. If I use this wire on the - side of the trunk release, and run a fused plus wire to the other will this work with the remote,or will it just tell the starter the trunk is open and not to start? Also, can the plus wire be the one from the 2100?

I forgot to respond to KarTuneMan. This Escort does not have a lock switch on the door, but it does have the trunk release installed from the factory.I thought this was wierd, but great. I appreciate all the expert help from this site and look forward to more responses and feed back. Thanks so much to moonlite and KarTuneMan.

No...no...no...   lets start over, maybe this new diagram will explain better.

Also it would help you understand how relay works if you read SPD Relay

DO NOT USE the RED / white wire from the P2 connector for the +12v to supply the 86 & 30 of the above relay, the RED / white is only meant to supply the coil of the relay only.

The trunk release from the remote usually only works when the car is not running or under remote started.

Hope this will clear up the confusion.
