Hi everyone

I need a signal from my Compustar PRO alarm/starter (CM4000 model brain) that gives a ground out when armed. The purple wire that is prewired to the starter kill relay is supposed to give this signal, but for some reason it is not. I even tried hooking up a relay to amplify the ground, but no luck. My starter kill seems to work fine though, it makes no sense!

Anyone have any idea? I tested with a multimeter on the purple wire too but I see no change in measure. What should I be measuring it with?

THanks in advance!

Put your meter to the DC volts setting.  Touch and hold the red lead of the meter to a positive 12 volt source.  Then touch the black meter lead to the purple wire.  When the alarm is armed it should read 12 volts.  With the alarm disarmed, it should read much less than 12 volts.     If your starter kill relay is working, there must be ground on the purple wire.

That wire is only capable of providing a half an amp of current at best.  What are you trying to connect to it?

I need a ground signal when armed from that wire to close my sunroof and windows.

My starter kill seems to work because when I try to start the car when it is armed, the alarm goes off and it doesn't start. Yet when I try to test the wire, or I connect my sunroof/windows trigger which closes when it sees a ground, nothing happens.

The violet wire on the CompuStars is ground while armed AND ground while remote started fwiw...

What type of rig are you working on? Does the sunroof have a load limited switch? Ground when armed might NOT be such a good idea.

I've already got a sunroof module hooked up to the car, this was all previously working with my Clifford unit. I just upgraded to a Compustar and I need a ground out when armed for this function. The purple wire on the Compustar is giving me ground at all times. Anyone have any ideas?

If your starter kill relay is properly connected, and your car starts when the alarm is not armed, the purple wire is not grounded all of the time.

Did you use the meter as I suggested earlier?

Yep I tested it with a meter just how you suggested. It gave me a ground constantly, regardless of whether the alarm was armed or not.

It's really wierd! I tested on my other car that has the same alarm, and I'm getting the same thing!
