alright this is probably a stupid question but what is the difference between a 555f and a 555fw? are the both compatible with a 96 mustang?

Not a stupid question at all. The W designates that it comes in a white box rather than clamshell packaging.

They are the one and the same moduleand yes it's a 555F or 555FW for your car.
