2000 Saab 9-3 coupe

I want to permanently get rid of what ever makes the car start when the chip in the key triggers it to start.

On a GM all i did was cut the 2 VATS wires, twist them together and I was done.

Is this possible on a saab?

Does anybody know which two wires are the "VATS" wires that I need to splice together ?

You could just leave the key in the ignition. Otherwise, you would need a bypass such as a 556U which you could hook up to always be "on" which would allow you to start the car with an unchipped key. They run about 50 - 60 bucks. I wouldn't recommend doing this though.

VATS it was resistor base immobilizer so it was only a resistance what keep the car starting now days there transponder base and those can only be bypass by dealer

Remove chip from key, place around ignition switch barrel,  remove any other keys, wait about 5 mins then try to start with key from which you've removed the chip, move chip around the barrel housing until car starts and glue chip to barrel housing in that position. You've by now invalidated your warantee and made it easy for someonre to hotwire your car so I accept no responsibilty for this and I suggest a 556U or similar.

Thank you very much for your replies,

Here is the catch.  I lost the key.  A new key is $2500 from saab!

So I dont have a key to install into a 556U........

Damn so there is no way to trick the transponder like there was back in the day when VATS used a little resistor ????

Lets be serious, who is going to steal a 2000 saab people.........jerry seinfeld !!!

Thanks in advance for any further help!

As far as I know, there is no other way. How the hell does Saab charge that much for a new key?

Plan B: Burn car to the ground and collect insurance money.

That figure surprised me enough that I actually called to verify it...Wright Saab in Wexford, PA quoted me approx. $1000, for a new computer, 2 new keys, and programming. Not counting the cost of getting the car to the dealer. That's much less than your figure, but still quite high.

I would suggest you call junkyards, insurance companies, etc. You'll be looking for a freshly totaled donor car with an intact computer and its keys(at least 1) - if you can get the key cylinders as well that would be ideal. In theory those should swap into your car.
