In Jan 08 with this forums help I installed a Compustar in my 2002 Tacoma. Here is the post.

About a month after the install I started having problems.

1st problem is that the siren seems to randomly go off. Usually it is quieter then when the alarm sets it off. It seems to be linked to the drivers door trigger. I have diode isolated both door triggers, think possible a bad diode I replaced both with brand new ones. Also when the siren is going off the remote doesn't work, nothing happens when I push any buttons.

2nd problem, the biggest of my problems, is I put the system in valet mode when I took my truck in to the tire shop and now can't get it out. I have tried following the users manual and nothing happens.

3rd problem, least important, I was trying to set up priority unlock but I can't get into the programming section. I get the 1st set of chirps but any time I try to select a menu it chirps 3 times and leaves the programming section.

I think all of my problems are linked but I have no way of proving this.

Thanks for any information.

I would definately check your ground wire. Alarms will do some wacky stuff if they don't have a proper ground.

check what the guy above me said

for the 3rd question, for that to even work at all you need to have the 2nd unlock wire hooked up off of the brain

I haven't had time to check on this yet, I left on vacation right after I posted. I got back today and have 3 more days off so I should be able to take a look at everything.

I think I grounded the system to the ignition, but I have to double check. I will let everyone know tomorrow.

I double checked this morning and I did ground the alarm to ignition. Is that a good place to ground it, or should I run my own ground from the body somewhere?

Thanks

run your ground to the chassis, the Driver Kick should have a factory ground somewhere around there!  hook your ground next to that.....make sure you scrape the paint off and a ring terminal with a star washer should do the trick!  (star washer not always needed)

I moved the ground to the drivers side kick panel next to the factory alarm and still can't get the system out of valet mode. Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Well after moving the ground and waiting 36 hours everything is working now. The problem with the programming happened to be that I miss read the docs. The install guide says to push the trunk and key button until the lights flash, I was just pushing the buttons.

Thanks everyone for your help.
