Ok, the shocking part is that GM is aware and is letting it go. There seems to be problems with the data passlock bypasses and the passlock system in the car. Sometimes the vehicle refuses to start witha key even though the remote starter works fine. I am currently using a 556lw and am having said problem, won't start with the key, fires right up with the remote start. I just checked my wiring last night adn everything is hooked up fine. I want to know if a: anyone has the diagram for the relay resistor bypass method with basic instructions, and B: if anyone has had any problems doing it that way.

Not an 06 Colorado but we installed a remote start unit in an 08 Cobalt the other day. It was a dealership job. Nothing but trouble, first thing is that when backing the vehicle up you have a 50 50 shot at having power steering. Completely removed RS unit, only to have the vehicle still have the same problem. Come to find out there are dozens of GM service bulletins on this vehicle. One of them directly addressed the power steering in reverse issue. The tech at the dealership looked at the vehicle and said it must be the Remote start unit. Wouldn't you think he should have been aware of the problem.

had a friend with an '05 colorado doing the same thing (minus the remote start). she was gonna have me put a RS into it till that gremlin showed up. dealer repaired it under warranty. i'd ask what it was they did, but she's in kosovo till next spring

there are issues with certain bypass module in colorado / hummer H3 etc. you can use either Idatalink ADS-TBSL-GM or build it the old fasion way with relays and a resitor let me know if you need the diagram for the old way.

Ok, I posted before about changing back to the relay resistor method for bypassing passlock in this vehicle. I am still running the 556LW and have noticed a pattern and would like your guys take on this. The same thing happens every day, religiously. The truck starts fine with the key in the morning. I get to work, park and go about my day. Come the afternoon when it is time to go home and the truck is super hot inside, key does not work. I remote start the truck and it fires fine. I get home, and once the truck cools down around 9 pm, the key works fine again, any thoughts?

I would try swapping the 556L - or if you're adventurous and knowledgeable, disassembling it and looking for problems with the circuitry. You could quite possibly have a bad solder joint or component inside it which would change resistance if the temp heated up enough.

sure sounds like a cold solder problem somewhere..... i had a problem like this recently on a Cobalt or Equinox or something using the 555L module....

now would it be a bad solder inside the 556lw, or would it be a bad solder on the wires from the key cylinder to the bypass

I always just use the old school method with those cars with the relay and resistors. Takes like 5 minutes to wire up and your guaranteeed to have the right resistance value. Also Davngr, when you said car tech I'm sure you meant part changer. I consider a tech someone that will actually trouble shoot a problem not just change out what the computer tells them is wrong.

sounds like a problem in the module... swap it out for the customer and be done with it....or put it back the way it was without the bypass for a few days and tell the customer to keep an eye on it... if it still acts up then it's a problem with the vehicle... if it works fine then its a problem with the module....

i have it switched back for the time being,its my personal vehicle so we will see how it handles for the next couple of days.
on a completely unrelated issue, check engine light came on this morning... never a dull moment
