So i just had quality auto sound install the viper 5900 07 Scion TC

The Security part works beautifully but the remote start is having serious problems.

The tech at Quality Auto Sound is going to have me bring it down monday to trouble shoot.

This is the problems....

When i hit the remote start, the car turn on and then cranks, and actually starts then immediately dies. Attempts 3 times then gives up i guess.

Now when i start the car with the key, it starts up and then while still in the ign, i turn on the remote start and remove the key and the engine keeps on running. I check tach, and all other wires and voltage in all appears to be fine. Now they also installed the XK05.

This is what i observe.   With the key, the LED turns on and i start the car and it stays on for about two seconds then goes off. With the remote start, the led turns on and the led stays on while the remote starts attempts to start the car.

It seems to me the cause is the engine immobilizer. Giving the car starts then immediately shuts down but if i use the key to start the car, the car starts, then hit the remote start while engine running, and remove the key, the car continues running and i can use the remote start to shut down the engine.

In the end, i don't know, and i need your help. What do you all think?

Not 100% sure but I know Toyota did something. All i remember is you needed a relay that went to negative, I believe (sorry I haven't done newer Toyotas).

I vaguely remember, again I think, that Toyota reversed a wire which won't let it turn over.

Perhaps you can start from there, I'm sure looking at the new Camrys wiring may help solve your problem.

It seems it's all wired up right. Do you think the engine immobilizer is kicking in?

Try putting the key in the ignition switch, leave it in the off position.  Now remote start the car.  How does that work out for you?

Nope no go, but here is something new.

I noticed if i put the key into the on position, then do the remote start, the car will run for 5 or so seconds then shut off,

but then when it tries to restart, the car instead of firing for 1 second, it just cranks. Even when i put the key in manually, it just cranks. I have do 3 on/off ign cycles before the car will even start off the key.

Couple of things you can do.....

1.    To relearn tach signal.....

  • start the car with the key....
  • within 5 sec press and hold the valet switch....
  • the LED will light constant when the tach is learned...
  • release the  valet switch

2,     Try remote start. If it fails, check shut down code

  • with ignition off, press and hold down the valet switch
  • turn the ignition ON and OFF while HOLDING the valet switch
  • release the valet switch
  • press and release the valet switch again
  • the LED will report the last shutdown, count the number of flashes

I FIX IT!! I FIXED IT!!! WOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

10 Hours 25 min later and i isolated the problem to what i though 9 hours ago, the XK05!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOHOOO

I still give 90% credit to Quality Auto sound for wiring the other 150 wires correctly but just two LOUSY wires took a nice remote start system and turned into junk.

The Scion TC has a chipped key so it is in need of a Bypass module. Now i've been going thru every single wire, checking tack voltage (was working correctly) diagnostic (came back ok) simply enough anything doing with the Remote start/security system, was 100% working and it was starting the car but testing the immobilizer, it seemed to be working, LED would come back as programmed etc, voltage and all wires were normal and sending data. But at 3:00AM, i was 1 minture from giving up and now looking at the 50th page of a variety of wire diagrams, i noticed the WHITE/ Purple wire, and the Purple wire to send data to the ecu confirming bypass.

From the diagrams
https://www.bypasskit.com/getdocument.aspx?documentid=556

and then looking at the wires, i noticed a little inconsistency with the wiring of these two very important data wires.

To put it simple, the input was put on the output wire and the output wire was put on the input. Simple mistake of reversed wires.

Complicated side for the techs, on the diagram, you'll see the Key Side Data (Violet/White) wire, that was connected to the ECU/ECM. and the Violet wire was supposed to be connected to the ECM but was connected to the key side.

There for sending the data the wrong way. LOL

At the times i was scared to cut them and switch them. Sweating, nervous, and very tired.
So i just simple cut them, stripped the tips and twisted them together the way the diagram says, didn't even put connectors on yet (didn't know if i have to wire them back the way they were before)

Said a short prayer.

Hit the XK05 program button, LED went off signaling it programmed, Car started with key, 5900 learned the tack within 1 second LOL. Ran car for 30 seconds. Turned car off.

Hit the nice star key twice, Remote start initiated.........

Engine cranks!

STARTS,

1, 1000
2, 1000
3, 1000
4, 1000
5, 1000
6, 1000
7, 1000
8, 1000
9, 1000

And after 9 seconds and then the next 20 minutes were the times turned off the engine, i concluded i found the problem and fixed it.

I DANCED, and Danced, and woke up everyone in the house LOL posted_image posted_image posted_image posted_image posted_image posted_image

Then i spent the next hour splicing on connectors, etc, and made sure everything was secure and wouldn't short out down to electrical code, etc.

Found out very quickly nickel connector CREATE a ton of resistance for 3 volts of data and quickly made the XK05 from not learning they key. This was a quick fix of twist on Copper clamp.

Now it's 4:43 AM, My car has been in the shop and getting worked on for 19 hours and i'm going to bed and oh, i don't work tomorrow, WOOHOO and sleep.

Good NIGHT!!! WOOHOOOO posted_image posted_image posted_image posted_image posted_image posted_image posted_image posted_image posted_image posted_image posted_image

I thought you would be at least a LITTLE excited that you got it running.    I know I am excited to see someone actually doing a little footwork to solve a problem they are having.
