Hello, I am installing a Viper 5900 in my 2003 Ford Excursion. I just want to verify the operation of the alarm if the unit fails/loses power etc.

If I cut the starter wire, and wire the purple wire coming from the remote start to the starter side, and the green wire to the key side of the starter wire and the Viper fails, from what I understand, the truck will not start, even with the key. Is this correct?

Thanks for the help.

no it's not correct.  The relay is normally closed connection.  So if the system fails you will still be able to start your vehicle with your key.  The only time the starter is interupted is while the alarm is armed, or it is remote started (anti-grind option on).

Hi, I have another question on this install. I installed the system today and am testing the remote start. The Excursion is a diesel, so I am using the timer method for waiting enough time for the start.

The truck starts fine, and the safety features(hood pin/Brake) work fine. The truck also runs fine if I put the key in the ignition and drive.

When the truck is in remote start mode, and running, but I haven't put the key in the run position, I can here relay's clicking in the Viper every 10 seconds or so. Is this normal.

Thanks

Yes, that's the internal relay controlling the parking light flash.  You can change the flashing output to constant through the programming.

Ah, I appreciate that, I must have missed that, and I have hooked up the entire unit yet.

Thaks
