The info: Eli Electronics add-on remote start to 1997 F-150 Lariet W/remote keyless entry and factory alarm.
The problem: unit operates fine w/ unlock button in truck, but will not operate w/ remote.

This is just a suggestion: Use the lock wire as your trigger so when you want to remote start your truck you do not unlock the doors.

How do you have it wired? It sounds like you have the trigger wire from your RS tied into your unlock wire since using the switch works. Have you tested that wire to see what happens to it when you use the factory remote to unlock the doors?

jrilla, thanks for the reply, this is my first install like this and it is giving me fits. I hooked up to the unlock so I wouldn't have to listen to the horn whenever I started the truck, plus I thought it would bypass the alarm? The wire seems to do the same whether I use the remote or truck unlock. I think I may need to intsall a relay to diable the alarm system but I can't find the right wire to install the relay to. Any help is appreciated.

I couldnt find any info on that unit, so I dont know if it has a factory disarm wire.

The only thing I can think of as far as why the remote would not trigger the starter is if the current was not strong enough which would be strange. you could try using a relay that is triggered by the unlock wire.

Your Factory Alarm Disarm wire is Dk.GREEN/ purple and it is Negative found in the drivers kick panel. That is all the info I have on that.

I have searched for that wire and cannont find it there, I found I believe a Dk GREEN/ purple wire up by the steering column but it does not seem to do what it is supposed to: read 12V at rest, drop to 0 when the door is unlocked? Any other thoughts, thanks Ken.

The ELi is the same as the RES ( Impulse ) systems. The wire that you found is the correct wire. You will need to ground tis wire when remote starting.

Sorry for my ignorance, but is this a momentary ground when I hit unlock on my remote i.e. a relay? and the wire is up by the steering column? and does what when I test it? Thanks for the help Ken.

What happens after you remote start the truck and you can't use the keyless entry?

You have to test for the disarm wire by turning the key to unlock in the drivers door. It should read ground when held to unlock. You cannot test using the switch on the door.

Sounds like you've tapped the door lock control switch wire. You need to tap the wire that runs from the gem to the actuators instead.

The factory disarm wire you mention is grounded when the door key is turned to unlock, and floats at whatever your voltmeter and the rap module pull it to when the key is not in door lock.
