hey guys, I will be putting a r/s into a 2001 chevrolet, monte carlo right away. just wondering if there are any tricks with this vehicle. In particular i was curious about the accessability of the ignition harness, does the radio have to be removed to get to it, or is it accesssable by removing the ignition switch. Correct me if I am wrong but i do not think you can get to the harness from under the dash.

Any tips or insight into this vehicle would be greatly appreciated.

                                        thank-you in advance

You can get at the harness from under the dash easily; the Monte Carlo/Impala weren't like the N-bodies(Grand Am, Alero, Malibu) where you have to remove the radio or the dash cluster.

Driver's side lower dash trim and the metal brace behind it need removed. If you're so inclined you can also pop back the main dash trim piece which covers the ignition switch and remove the 2 10mm screws holding the switch in place.

I'm with Chris, I get the ignition wiring right there under the driver's dash, without removing the radio.

Once you get the dash down, you can see/feel the wires there off to the right. They're wrapped in a black mesh, and also held in place by two heavy zip ties.

Once you cut the zip ties and the mesh, you can get at the wires well enough as long as you have patience and a good work light. The Passlock II wires are right there too.

Those wires sit on a sort of black plastic "shelf" with a very sharp edge. I like to put a piece of duct tape on there to I won't cut myself.

Also, you shouldn't have to kill yourself struggling to get to the BCM.

At the parking light switch, there's light blue negative, or BROWN / white positive, either one works fine.

At the driver's fuse box, there's a bundle of wires that looks really tight and impossible, but if you just wiggle it a little, you'll see that it wiggles right out of there with plenty of room to work, and the doorlock wire is in there.
