merlon meal 8300

Hey all,Good Morning.
I have a 2001 Silverado. Manual windows and locks and want to install a remote start and entry alarm in. When I got it,It had no instructions so I thought I'd look online. Apparently no one has heard of it. I even took it to a "Pro Shop" and even they didn't know what to do with it,I don't have the money to get one of those Vipers or what ever they're called and would like to use what I already have. They want to charge $65 a door for the power locks and I have no idea to install the alarm.
Is there somewhere I could look for the instructions to this thing? Got it from a friend and asked if he knew where the instructions where and he had no idea. Can you guys help? I'd really appreciate it.

Typically they put the wire colors on the module. With that you can pretty much install it. If you don't have the chart, then I would wait to buy a new one.

I can't find much of anything on Merlon meal 8300. DEI has a brand Merlin, a restaurant franchise and there is a Spanish sight that mentions Merlon in google, but no reference to the manufacture.

Where'd this alarm come from?

$65 a door sounds about right for lock actuators.

Not sure where it came from. Got it off a buddy of mine. A Viper to me just sounds like alot for something over hyped up. Until I see something that makes them better then anyone else for the money they're going for (Around $300 or more) Then I'll just stick to something simple. If $65 a door for a remote to unlock the doors,no actual buttons from how it was explained to me,what about the install for something like a remote start and entry?

Added note,This truck had a previous alarm on it,I found out what alot of the wires do,looked at the circuit board. Wires labeled "SIR","P/S-",Ones like that im still trying to figure out. I'm going to put it in myself. Since this truck had a prior alarm,is it possible it already has a Passlock 2 in it? And if so,How do I find it? There is a little gray box on the wiring harness going to the fuse center next to the dash.

In advance, this is nothing personal. I offer my advice with the good intent that if you take it you'll save yourself a lot of hassle.

1. You're in over your head with this truck and this alarm. SIR means Supplemental Inflatable Restraint(i.e. airbag). It would be highly unpleasant for you if you applied any voltage at all to that wire. I would additionally give my left nut that the gray box you're referencing has nothing whatever to do with any factory alarm.

Also, your truck definitely has Passlock II. No maybe about it. Every GM truck since 1998 has been equipped with Passlock(or the newer system Passkey III), regardless of whether they had a factory alarm or not.

2. Stop whining about how expensive Viper alarms are. There are cars between a Rolls-Royce and a Kia Rio, there are alarms that aren't that expensive and will do what you want. Audiovox, Scytek, and Compustar are typically available installed for much less than $300. Boa and Designtech will work great if you really want to do the install yourself - you can get tech support from them, which you won't find on this Merlon chinese restaurant piece of garbage or Viper.

3. You should consider how much your time is worth. If $65 is a lot for a doorlock actuator installed, how much is an hour of yours worth and how many hours will it take you to get each actuator mounted, attached, and wired satisfactorily? As well as getting the alarm/remote start working properly.

4. I would strongly suggest you immediately stop caring about the alarm you already have. I've done thousands of alarms/remote starts, including many eBay specials and other cheap pieces; I would never have dreamed of attempting them without a manual specifying wire colors, and the earlier posts in this thread make clear that you're unlikely to find a manual for it. Get your "friend" to refund the money, and write off his friendship if he doesn't.
